Any teachers still teaching?

Just curious if there are any other teachers out there that are still working? It is getting TOUGH to be on my feet as much as I need to be! I feel like with most jobs you can get away with sitting down, but it is hard to control 30 junior high students at a time with your feet up on your desk! Luckily, they have been super sweet, but, sheesh, I don't know if I can make it two and a half more weeks.

If you are teaching, are you planning on working up until your due date? My date is 4/23, which is a Saturday, and my current plan is to work up until 4/22, but I'm not so sure how it's going to work out. That leaves me with five weeks until summer break. As of today, my stomach cramps up every time I walk too many steps! The more I'm on my feet, the worse it is. . . Not to mention my ankles and feet. . . I'm wondering if it would be dumb to take off the week before and get a full six weeks of leave. At the same time, I don't want to be stuck at home with nothing to do other than wait for little guy to make his arrival!

I have been off since the week after Easter. It was getting so difficult to walk around and keep up the amount of patience that being a teacher requires lol. The students were super sweet as well and I miss them already! However it has been nice to have some relaxing time at home before little one gets here. My due date is April 7. Don't regret going on maternity leave a little bit early one bit!

I am a teachers assistant in an infant room at a eairly childhood learning center and I'm still going! I'm due April 26th, but my last day at work will be April 22nd. It's getting pretty difficult to carry the babies around expecially since we have a few babies who are quite chunky/heavy, and I'm on my feet for about 7.5 hours with a few chances to sit. I haven't had to much swelling in my feet or back pain, a few BH contractions here and there, my biggest problem is just being EXAHSTED all the time. I love them like crazy but I can't wait to start leave! Or if baby wants to make an eairly arival, she is more then welcome!!!!! (As long as she's ready and healthy of course). I'm counting the days until my little baby girl is finally here!

I am still teaching, due on the 27th. I teach 3-5 special ed and it's a very active job. I plan to work up to delivery, but my principal is good about understanding the need to sit throughout the day. Have a chat with yours about that. Mine basically just said, don't just sit behind your desk (which isn't really an option with the kids I have). I'm a little anxious about tomorrow, as we have an adapted field day field trip. But I wouldn't miss it...we need all hands on deck and my kids love it. Just make sure to stay hydrated!

I am due the 8th and my last day was the 25th. Today would have been my second day back if I'd gone back after spring break. I teach a combined preschool/kindergarten, and I don't think I could still take the constant sitting on the floor, squatting, bending, etc. My pedometer said I walked 3-5 miles a day just at work, without all the up and down movements. Being at home is so boring without being able to do what I'd really like to do. I miss the children a lot too, but my sub is sending me updates.

I also teach middle school, I'm into week two being off. I am due tomorrow (no baby yet) so I worked until 38+2. With my first I worked until my induction on my due date. I am just in significantly more pain this time around with my pelvis then I was then. Plus I wanted to spend some one on one time with my two year old befits her little sister comes.

My due date was 4/4. I had planned to work until 3/31, which would have been our last day before spring break, but I went into labor on 3/30, so I misssd the last day. At 39 weeks pregnant, I was definitely worn out at the end of the day (or, by lunch), but spring break was such a natural transition point that I kept at it.

This probably doesn't count (I'm in central administration) but I plan to work until she's born. I agree with PP--you have every reason to sit when you need to! Take care.

I'm with you! I'm a high school teacher. I still have to be on my feet some, but I moved a table and chair to the front of the room and sit as much as I can. When the kids are working, I don't walk around and circulate like I used to, but they know to come up to me with questions. I am due in a week and plan to work through my due date as long as baby doesn't come early.

I was having AWFUL awful back pain before my spring break and didn't know if Iwould make it, but a week of rest helped a lot and i feel way better. I think I'll be fine.

With my first, I worked several days past my due date with no issues... the only reason I ended up leaving before birth was because I didn't want to write any more sub plans

I'm an elementary counselor, and I worked up til the day before I had DS (had him on a Sat, worked through Friday). I really don't think I'll make it as long this time. We are on spring break right now, but if I haven't had this baby by Monday I'll head back to work. In due the 29th. My principal is great about sitting and taking care of yourself while pregnant.

I'm a middle school multi-categorical special education para, and I'm on my feet A LOT. I do diaper changes and lifting as well. I'm due the 14th, and my plan is to work through the 15th unless baby arrives early or on time! I'm typically exhausted by the end of each day, but (mostly) refreshed by the next, so it's manageable. The other ladies I work with are great about stepping in and taking over when I need a break. I don't get PTO so I want to work as long as I can.

Middle school computer teacher... Been out since Thursday of last week, thanks to catching the stomach bug from my husband. Not cool. Planned on working till yesterday (due today), but I'll take it. Been good that I can deal with contractors as we are about 2-3 weeks from finishing up a major home renovation.

I'm an elementary school art teacher, and took my FMLA a few weeks ago. I'm due on the 15th. I teach 800 some odd students with 30 minute classes where I'm on my feet the entire day. Since I'm the only art teacher for the school, this one-man show felt the behavior management stress more and more (not to mention the rotating door of classes with 0 transition time). So glad I've taken this time for myself before baby comes, but I feel like I'm getting stir crazy in my own body now.

I'm not a teacher but I work in a restaurant with 10-12 hour shifts. I really wanted to go on leave next week because I just can't do it anymore, but I'm only getting paid 6 weeks so looks like I'm sucking it up and working til the end.

I'm an elementary music teacher and due on the 15th. I'm hoping to make it til this Friday!
no signs of anything happening so far.

I was lucky in that last week there was testing so I was not as much going on because I couldn't teach. I'm trying not to dance too much and strain myself setting up instruments. I teach at two schools so I'm making up those missed classes from testing this week and then cleaning up my room and instruments at both schools this week. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for not just taking off after Spring Break but time is money and I used up most of my days with DS1. Good luck ladies. We can do it.

I'm a second grade teacher and thank the good lord I have a sweet class this year-- I can sit on my stool or desk chair and have kids come to me without having to circulate as much as other classes. I'm due April 17 and my last day is the 15th. I was a week late with my first and went into labor the day before we were supposed to be induced. Praying I'm not super late and don't have to be induced... Things have been getting stressful as I get closer to due date but mostly because I'm trying to wrap up a million loose ends. I'm very blessed to have a wonderful, experienced sub taking over for me (it was down to the wire trying to get her placed). I just want to meet my baby girl!

I oversee the special ed. department at my school. Friday is my last day and my RCS is Monday, however, I have the ability to sit for most of the day. With DD I was an Autistic Support Teacher and worked until I went into labor (water broke on my way home). This time I'm much more uncomfortable and not sure I'd be able to do that. Very happy that I only have two more days.

My c section is 4/26. I am working until 4/14. My longest walk is to my classroom when I get to school. I sit when I can, which doesn't feel like enough, but in dealing. With my DS, I worked until my due date and he was born a week late.

Whew, I'm glad to see there are so many fellow teachers! I say we timed it pretty good (assuming y'all's six week leave ends right around the end of the school year like mine does!) As long as I'm no more than a week early, I will have an extra long summer vacation this year :-D

I'm a high school teacher and am still working. I have a c-section scheduled for 4/12 so I am finishing out this week. It's definitely getting tough to move around the building! My kids are generally fine with me sitting but the days of "quick run down to the copy room" are over

Still teaching! My little angels this year make it difficult to sit down for even a few minutes. God willing I will have this baby by Monday so my long term sub can take over my "Class of the Year" and enjoy every minute until the last day of school.

I'm so lucky that our school year ends in May so I can ride maternity leave right into summer break.

Update- last night I had a lot of false labor and I basically have Braxton Hicks every time I walk anywhere. I was in so much pain today I thought about leaving early..... Currently lying on the couch with a hot water bottle. I am scheduled to work two more days but if i feel like this tomorrow, there's no way I can teach. Hoping to either A)feel better; or

go into labor already!

I was going to work through next Friday, but I decided to work through that Tuesday instead and have a couple of days extra. Three more school days until my extended summer break! I'm so excited :-)

Are y'alls students asking you to bring the baby to meet them before the end of the year? Mine are constantly telling me I should, but eeeeek sounds scary! Poor little guy might freak out if he's around that many crazy junior high kiddos!
