Doctor says I'm in for the long haul...

Last week I had a 37 week ultrasound and my doctor said I'm in for the long haul to go to my due date of April 27 and maybe even a week after! AHHH I'm SO ready now and she said that my baby boy is already 7 1/2 lbs and in the 80th percentile. Did anyone else's doctor say this and the baby ended up coming early? Also, is it weird if I ask her at my appt tomorrow if we can induce if he is not here by the 27th? My entire body hurts and I'm having horrible contractions & pain in the afternoon, evening, and all through the night, plus have some substantial swelling in my ankles & feet.

I would avoid induction, personally. I've seen soooo many turn into c/s that might have been vaginal if mama had just been patient.

I am 40 weeks next Monday. Tomorrow I am talking to my dr. My feet keep swelling my hips hurt and at my scan last week they estimated she was "on the small size" 9.5 lbs. I am hoping he takes pity on me. I would wait until next week unless Dr thinks I should induce earlier.

With my first, I was dilated and contracting when I was past my due date. I was induced and ended up in a c section. I would avoid induction if possible. Weight estimates can be off, as well as due dates. I'd wait a little longer. You may go early. Never know. Hang in there. This final stretch isn't fun.

I am just going to throw this out there..

I had a very positive induction with my first who was nine days late. While I agree you should avoid induction if possible, I don't think it is something to be feared or that you should assume there will be complications because you are being induced. As a FTM I would hold out as long as possible including going a week past...and I truly believe that is one of the most miserable things you can do.

Honestly this time around I would push to go later and try to stay strong until the last minute, but I am huge, the Drs are concerned about baby's size, I am not sleeping much if any and even with the chiropractor adjustments I am in a ton of pain. Because we weren't ttc I wasn't paying close attention to my lmp so the date the Drs are using is at least 2+ days in. I just want to see if they will consider it as I will technically be late by Tues.

I think it's insane that a doc can say that with any percentage of certainty. Baby will come when baby is ready. I wasn't dilated at all when I went into labor with all three of mine, nor had my babies "dropped."

That's what I was thinking, too. That's why I want to flat out ask her about possible inducing if he is not here by April 27. I just don't know how much more I can take.

After my doctor's appointment yesterday, I'm still only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. She knows how incredibly miserable I am and sounds like she won't let me go a week past my due date of April 27. She said at my next week's appt on April 21, if nothing has progressed, she said we will work out a "plan." So hopefully that means a plan or date when to induce by. Let me just mention that I live in Louisville, KY and I'm due right around Derby time. If I'm a week late then everything around here will be nuts, as it is actual Derby week, including traffic, etc. That may sound trivial, but it's absolutely insane around here during Derby time.
