What do you use for breakouts?

I know salyicic acid or other harsh acne treatments are a no-no. But hate just leaving my zits out there..... What safe and effective products do you use?

Re: What do you use for breakouts?

  • The only thing that has been able to keep my acne under control is a charcoal soap. I don't think it's been officially "pregnancy approved" but it's also not an any do-not-use list I've seen. Lush makes an amazing one. Biore also has one that Walgreens, CVS, and other drug stores carry.

  • Unblemish by R+F with purification essential oil mixed in. Keeps everything in check.

  •  Sudocrem! It's great on spots and can be used on babies for nappy rash and exzma so you know it's safe to use in pregnancy x
  • Tea tree oil! Just discovered it for use on pimples thanks to my son's teacher. DS had this big pimple on his inner thigh that was making him walk like a cowboy, poor thing. She suggested that to dry it up, it was gone and popped on its own the same night. I was amazed and now it's got DH and I using it on any blemish that comes up.

  • I use St Ives "Even and Bright" scrub. I've had (almost) no skin issues since I switched to it at the start of pregnancy.

  • Actually there's no data that says topical benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are dangerous while pregnant. The absorption rates are so low, you'd practically have to bathe in the super high-potency formulations to even worry about systemic effects. The only topical to really steer clear of is anything vitamin A based (this includes all retinols and retinoids, such as Retin-A).

So wash and medicate away ladies!  We deal with enough side effects during pregnancy, bad skin doesn't have to be one of them.

Helpful article here (also talks about sunscreens, self-tanners, all kinds of skin stuff!):
