40+Weeks False Labor/Pelvic Pain?

Hi Moms!
Hoping to get some advice. Our due date was last Saturday the 9th. I began feeling contractions early that morning, and started monitoring them after a few hours around 5 am. They were getting closer, they were frequent, and consistent but never got very painful. I didn't realize at the time, but when I changed position they slowed down. Went to hospital around 6 pm, and was sent home at 85% thinned and 2 cm dilated. Low and behold, Sunday I felt almost nothing leading me to believe I had experienced false labor. I think I never really considered false labor the day before because I was just so excited.

Late Sunday night I started experiencing sharp pains in my lower abdomen/pelvic area that were extremely painful. Told our doctor about pains Monday at our appointment. Although I did not really think they were contractions (they were irregular and were not increasing in intensity), I felt they were something significant due to how painful they were.  My doctor did not even examine me, telling me I probably had not progressed since I saw him Saturday evening. He told me the pains were due to the baby being so low (they have been telling me that baby is very low for the past couple of weeks) putting pressure on my bladder and pelvic bone. All last night and this morning I again had the pains. They are extremely painful! But then I think I was also having contractions.  Throughout all of this I have also been having the bloody show and loss of plug.

That was long, but I am just having a hard time distinguishing everything. Could they be contractions? I guess it could be both pressure and contractions? If not contractions could it be signaling something bad (can the baby be distressed so low?)? Would pelvic pressure come in waves and be so painful? I am just so confused, and feel brushed off by my doctor and hospital.

Thank you for any advice in advance <3

Re: 40+Weeks False Labor/Pelvic Pain?

  • My pelvic pain has increased within the past week or so (currently 38+4). I occasionally get these sharp pains really close to my hip bones but more like I pulled a muscle. I've had many ultrasounds so I'm sure if they would have found something they would of said something. My pain tends to ease when I lay down and one side usually hurts more. LO is measuring big and I'm pretty small so could just be my body is crying from extra weight. I've had contractions very early on due to PRL. I can tell the difference because those take my breath away and increase my back pain. With all the added pressure lightning crotch has been SO bad! Oh and lots of cramping lately (like a period). I recently got scared because LO was overly active one night but L&D told me that it was ok. Distress would be more along the lines of less movement. His heartbeat has always been ok even through contractions. Have you had an NST?

  • My pain is not eased if I lay down, that typically makes it worse.  Walking does not make it go away, but it just feels better for me to manage the pain that way. My pains are more in front, not near my hip bones. Our LO is measuring big also, and I have a smaller frame too. I've had back pain with some contractions but not typically with these pains. I'm not sure I have experienced lightening crotch, and it seems like that is a good thing lol!! LO has been super active the past couple of days as well, so that's good to know that shouldn't be worrisome.  No we did not do a NST, I'm guessing because I was all hooked up and being monitored Sat. evening, and everything looked good. Thank you for your response, it's nice to compare with someone.

At 39+3 I can totally feel your pain.  I had a false alarm on 3/30 and I haven't been taken serious since by my drs.  I have pressure and contractions and they are both quite painful.  I have been drinking a lot of water, laying down, walking and they don't go away but they don't get closer than 8 mind apart.  This has now been a daily thing and I stopped getting my hopes up.  I have had to tell myself once I can't talk through them it's the real deal although some of them are close!

My experience with pelvic pressure is that it feels like a bowling ball between your legs/hips.  The waves are most likely the false labor/contractions.
