Planned Cesarian/Induction

Holy $#!+ guess what!!! I went for my high risk appointment today (37+3), and due to high blood pressure and excessive protein levels, I was informed that I'm having a baby this upcoming Monday! I come in at 6:00 AM for an ultrasound. If LO is still breech, they'll proceed with a c-section. If he's flipped, they'll induce labor with pitocin and whatever else (fx)! ANYWAYS, if you've had experience with either, could you tell me how your morning/day went? What process and procedures did you go through? Were you allowed to eat the night/morning? I'm so excited!

Re: Planned Cesarian/Induction

  • Same delivery date here!!! Via c section too. I get the details tomorrow but I remember somethings about not eating 8 hours prior.

  • Are they not able to attempt an external
verison (flip the baby) if it is still breech? I had a planned induction with my first and since I was already 3-4cm and 100% effaced, we went straight to pitocin. It was a pretty relaxed event overall for us. I did eat the morning before although I wasn't very hungry.

We checked in between 730/8, IV at 830, had pitocin, IV pain meds (which I didn't like), then epidural and AROM. He was born at 130 that day. I think with induction it's really dependent on how favorable your cervix is.

Regardless, best of luck to you all!
  • I was induced with DS and it was scheduled a few days in advance. I ate a normal breakfast before going in to the hospital and I was allowed to eat there in the beginning of the process. They placed cervidil as the first step and added pitocin as things progressed. DS had some cord complications so I ended up needing an emergency c-section which went very smoothly and I had an easy recovery.

I have a RCS scheduled for Tuesday at 40+6 if I don't go into labor on my own before then. I have typical surgery instructions as far as eating goes, nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I also have a special soap I am supposed to use for 3 days/showers prior to surgery.

I hope eveything goes smoothly for you! Good luck!
  • @cmjenkies I'm overweight, anterior placenta, and really high fluid levels.. So OB and I decided the odds aren't in my favor.
  • Only instructions I got at my appointment today was not eating 8 hours prior. I have to check in at 10 to get things started for my 1230 appointment. I can only take my thyroid med prior to 4 am. I asked if I should change my diet and was told it was not necessary. I just do it to help with the constipation afterwards.

The curtain will be lowered as the baby comes out and only DH is allowed in recovery room per hospital rules. Not sure yet if they will tie down my arms or not...heard it's a thing in some hospitals. The rest is just on my birth plan (visitors and other medical preferences).
  • I will be induced this Thursday if baby does not come before. I will be 41 weeks. DD was also induced at 41w1d. I guess it's too cozy in there. W/ DD they did foley bulb after 2 rounds of cerci dial, no pitocin at all. I was at 0/0 at the start. But it took 24 hrs. This time I'm curious how they will do it and if it will also take 24 hours. Good news is my body is starting to progress so maybe I will be a bit more than 1cm on Thursday.
Any experiences on a second time induction? Faster? Same? Same method or different route?  (I know each one is different but I'm really struggling thinking of another 24 hr long induction but I liked how it was w/o pitocin)
