Successes: Still no insulin! My midwives called my numbers "beautiful" at my appointment on Monday.
Challenges: I'm really not sure why I am still testing 4 times a day. There's no way I would go on insulin or glyburide at this point, especially since they are going to induce me for medical reasons if my little guy doesn't arrive by next Monday. It's not like I'm planning to go crazy with the carbs, but not poking myself 4 times a day would be better. Plus, I'm almost out of test strips and would rather not have to order another pack of 50.
Recipe/Tips:
Questions: Are you ladies who are at the end and diet controlled still testing 4 times a day? Has anyone gone to less frequent testing?
Gestational Week: 39+4 hopefully my last check in!!
Successes: Numbers are still right as rain even with some boundary pushing.
Challenges: I was bummed I had to cave and buy more test strips... soooooo glad I had to buy 200 of them
Recipe/Tips: Nothing awe inspiring happening in our kitchen... I will say that crushed up pork rinds make a great substitute for bread crumbs! Great for homemade fish sticks or chicken.
Questions: No questions here but @Jheaps because my numbers were so low, my Dr changed me to testing 4x/day but only 2x/week... been awesome, and I really haven't found it that hard to stick with the diet even though I'm not testing. Sweets give me heartburn something fierce this pregnancy, so it really works out well.
@Jheaps Every practice is different and it is frustrating that you still are having to do it so often! I had to do it 2x a day the last couple of weeks, but I would sneak in extra times occasionally if I was worried about what I ate. Hang in there! It's almost over! I was so worried I might actually have type 2, but I sorta pigged out on chocolate yesterday and checked my numbers for fun and was only 84! (Eliot was born last week) It's worth managing especially closely towards the end. The first 12 hours after birth with GD is immensely more stressful than for mommies with normal pregnancies. If you have to go the night before your induction for prep and they offer you a sleeping pill, take it. I did not and really regret it! That is sleep I'll never get back! Also, I had an extremely easy induction! So if you're worried, it's not all that bad!
also, I hear you on the test strips!!! I had to get 100 more for the last two weeks... So I have a ton! It will be fun to go out for some big carby meal at a restaurant and to test my husband and my sugars afterword... Hee...hee...
