Baby Carrier - Overwhelmed

With my DD, I only had a Moby wrap, and used it rarely. For my 2nd, I'd like a good carrier, so I can wear DS while taking DD places, like the park, school, etc. Any opinions on the Ergobaby Four Position 360 Carrier? I would like a carrier for birth thru heavier size, so i would get the infant insert for this one too. Seems like it has great reviews from others I checked out online. Thoughts on carriers?

Re: Baby Carrier - Overwhelmed

  • I'm overwhelmed as well, but I am leaning towards the agility carrier by jj cole. I have yet to have met someone that has personal experience with it however.

  • I am I'm the same boat as well. I have heard great things about the Ergo & Tula.

  • I have a Beco Gemini carrier and a toddler Tula.  I like both relatively equally.  BFF has the Ergo and I like the infant insert for it-- my daughter didn't like the Gemini until she was a bit bigger.

For this baby, I'm going to stick with those two carriers, but add a Moby wrap or possibly a ring sling for the early days when baby will want to be on my chest.

  • We registered for the Baby K'tan for me when DS is little to free up hands. We also registered for the Lillebaby complete all seasons six position 360 carrier. It seems more breathable than the ergo and you don't have to buy a separate insert for the infant.
  • The one which was recommended to me was Infantino Sash Mei Tai 3 Position Baby Carrier . Apparently it's comfortable like a wrap, but more secure like a carrier, and is easier for people of differing sizes to use (my husband is 6'4, and wants to baby wear as well!)

  • I never heard of the Lillebaby complete all seasons six position 360 carrier, so thank you for mentioning it. I was doing research on it and like it MUCH BETTER than the Ergo, just from reviews. Going to see if Buy Buy Baby has it available to try on and try out. Thank you!
  • You might want to see if there's a baby wearing meetup or FB group in your area. Lots of them have carriers to try on so you can find one that fits well.

  • I would really recommend the kinderpack! So freaking easy and the infant size lasts through 2 years old. There is no insert which I LOVE, and they have some with mesh in the middle so you stay a bit cooler. They are a little hard to get at a stocking (they've been having them m-f at 12 est) but you can also join a Facebook bst group. Kinderpack Chatter and B/S/T is a great group :) they are pricier than most of the options listed, but is the comfiest carrier I've tried so far, and I've tried a lot haha.
  • Definitely look for a local babywearing group so you can try out the many different options for carriers/wraps.  Although I have not personally tried it, the lillebaby, seems to have a lot of chatter and positive feedback among the babywearing/cloth diapering groups.  I have seen two year olds and babies in both the lillebaby and ergo 360 and personally would go with the lillebaby.  For ssc's I'm a Tula mom (although I loved the fit of my ergo at 6ish months).  For the newborn stage I tend to stick with ring slings though.
  • Just bought our Lillebaby All Seasons over the weekend. DS is too big for me to try the front carries with him, so I'll wait until the baby arrives to really give it a go. I'm super pumped, though. I tried it on in the store and carried around a baby doll for a bit, and I think it's gonna be totally awesome.
  • I purchased a "deal" which included a Tula and a Beco Gemini... now I'm trying to decide which I want to keep. I'm short (5'0) and you can cross the back straps with the Gemini and you don't need an insert, so I think I'm leaning towards that one.

  • @carstekj - keep both!  The Gemini is great for newer babies but the Tula's wider base is better for 6+ months.
  • With DD I tried several wraps before settling on the ergo baby and eventually the lille baby carrier as well. I preferred the ergo carrier because I liked the security of it opposed to the wraps where I felt like it was too cumbersome to do every time I wanted to wear her and I just liked being able to click into the ergo and know it wasn't going anywhere. I wore her everywhere and only noticed soreness when she was getting heavier (around 24 months). She was always on the petite side so I was able to wear her a long time with the ergo.

  • I have a K'Tan, Ergo, Beco, a sling and Baby Bjorn One for DS.  HANDS DOWN-the Baby Bjorn One is the best. It's the easiest to use and it's the most comfortable for baby and for me. I found the Ergo way too wide for baby's legs. The K'Tan is okay, but it's much harder to put on and only works until baby is about 15lbs.

I would def recommend the Ktan for the early days. After six months i could never find one i liked. The ergo hurt my back and i didn't like that baby couldn't forward face. I didn t love the bjorn either.

I have heard lots of good about the tula but never used one.

I have an older Ergo that we just love! I'd love to get the ones where they can face outwards because they do prefer that as they get older. Ergos go on sale occasionally and pop up on baby deal sites if your looking to save. We also have a bjorn that was never used because it's not good on the hips- you want to have a wider seat type of thing going on and avoid the 'dangle legs'. We also have a moby that I use early on. But Ergo was my go to up until they are toddlers.

If if your really not sure I'd find a babywearers group near you. Here in Austin the babywearers chapter meets up at local baby stores and your able to try on/rent/ and ask questions about all the different types of carriers. The ladies are usually super helpful about finding one that's best for you and it's totally free to show up to.

Thanks for recommending the Lillebaby All Seasons! I had a Boba Wrap and an Infantino "hard" carrier with DS and didn't use them much because I just wasn't a fan of them. I know I'm going to have to wear baby #2 more since I'll have a 2 year old to worry about as well.

I've had my eye on the Ergo 360 because I've heard such good things. After reading this thread, I checked out the Lillebaby and liked it even more. Especially how it's $50-60 cheaper! So thanks!

  • Definitely go try some on! Our Buy Buy Baby had 5-6 hard carriers and 3 wraps for us to try, they even had a little fake baby to put in it. We put the Lillebaby All Seasons on our registry -- it felt great, very easy to put on, and it fit both me (5'8) and H (6'6). I wasn't as big of a fan of the Ergo for some reason. Just didn't feel as easy to put on and I didn't like that we'd have to get a separate infant insert. But it's all going to depend on your preferences and needs.

  • @skelly1990 I registered for both you mentioned!  I didn't know about the all seasons before I read your post, so I just adjusted my registry to fix that. It sounds like the Lillebaby will work best for both my husband and me. He's 6'4" and the one he tried on (Chicco) didn't work for hi . We don't have a Buy Buy Baby near us (boo). Are y'all finding this carrier at any other store, so I can have him try it on to be positive? Right now, I've just registered for it on Amazon.

  • @riveridgional That's awesome! We don't have a Buy Buy Baby near us either but our Bed Bath and Beyond has a few in stock. Maybe try there?
  • Lurking.

Definitely do your research and attend a local baby wearing meeting. SSC's are like jeans, they all have a different fit. I don't get the Tula hype, but I absolutely adore my Lillébaby Airflow. No infant insert required, lumbar support, and six different carrying positions. I believe they are available at Target now.
  • For those of you with height concerns... the Infantino carrier (I think the "flip") is one of the few that my 6'6'' brother can wear comfortably.

  • @riveridgional -  a lot of cloth diaper stores have a selection of carriers to try on.  Also, look to see if there is a babywearing international meeting in your area.  They should have many options for you to see and try.
  • I loved a stretchy wrap while DD was tiny then switched to a Tula and Lenny Lamb SSC. Now I have fallen down the rabbit hole of babywearing and just had a custom Bamberoo made. I would suggest joining your local babywearing group they often have lending libraries where you can try on different carriers. Not all carriers will fit everyone comfortably.
