Y'all, DD heavily favors my left breast. She is very lazy and slow on the right but takes to the left right away. I think she's getting enough (weight is great, dirty diapers are where they should be, seems very content) but my right breast is killing me. It's rock hard if she doesn't eat much from it. Any tips?
My son was the opposite, would latch on the right immediately but would not take the left. He would put it in his mouth and then withdraw many times until the point of frustration , which included loud crying and flailing.. Wasn't pretty. It was because my left nipple was flatter than the right and he just couldn't get it started.

I got a tip from a LC which really helped. Since he latched on the right breast right away in cross cradle position,  for the left breast we figured we would have him approach it from the same position (meaning head to the right) while in a football hold. That made the whole difference. He now knows to suck out the nipple for a sec before coming back for the latch. Since he got used to this technique, I am now practicing with him taking the left breast from a cross cradle position again, and this time he is taking it - just takes him a few extra tries.
I actually started doing this with Jax and it has really helped. Football on the right side and cross cradle on the left. (Which I switch arms on after he is latched anyway lol)

Yes, our boy was circumcised the second day of life. Didn't cry at all, healed well (it's been a week now). Taking off the bandage was tricky, but otherwise caring for it has bee pretty straightforward. We just had to avoid wipes due to the drying effects of alcohol, and put plenty of Vaseline around his penis to avoid sticking to the diaper.

Our pediatrician told us to just let the wrap fall off and that we didn't need vaseline until the wrap fell off. Did u use vaseline with the wrap on?
  • We're having huge bfing issues. I was so cracked sore and bloody by the second day, I had to start pumping and syringe and then bottle feed... He has a decent latch when he wants to but latches on and off over and over again and bites. He gets so frustRated and angry. Seeing a specialist this morning who will hopefully help. The sad thing is we almost had nursing completely down. I was just in to much pain to do it.

Hang in there. It can be really tough, but if you were sore and bloody and in too much pain to nurse, then you did the right thing by taking time to pump and hopefully heal a bit. Hopefully the specialist will be able to help you get back on track.

  • LO is 1 week old today and I just have this fear that my milk will not come in enough to keep her satisfied. On day 3 of life we had to start syringe supplementing due to my milk not coming in and babe was a little jaundice with a level of 14 bili. Not bad but since she wasn't too interested in nursing and wasn't meeting wet or dirty diaper requirements we had to supplement to keep her hydrated and stooling. I just want to stop syringe supplementing and pumping. There will be time later when I need to pump to start a stash. Sorry for the rant.

We had ours done his second day. The healing process has been ok, after a week they were concerned if wasn't healing enough and told us to use polysporin on it. So keep that in mind if you think it needs a little extra help. and Vaseline on the diaper too.

Had ours done on day 2. He's healed up wonderfully. The wrap was removed at the hospital the same day and we were just instructed to put liberal amounts of Vaseline on his penis until it healed and to leave it alone otherwise. He's 12 days now and it looks 100% healed.

Update on the lactation consult! Do it! If you are having any problems, do it! They got him to nurse in the office and I even got him to do it a bit at home so far! ... Still had to supplement with a bottle, but I have hope now! Hopefully we can get in with a chiropractor as my fast pushing stage in labour might have caused the little guy to be too tight on one side. Also he might have a bit of a tongue tie. Who do I talk to, to get that evaluated? Pediatrician?

Start with your pediatrician. They may refer you out to an ear, nose, throat doctor for further evaluation.

  • So I took a nap to prepare for little mister's Clusterfeeding fun time, and wouldn't you know who is sleeping in his bassinet and not wanting to eat/be held? Of course I still can't sleep :sleepy:
  • @korpatch my pediatrician clipped DD's tongue tie right in the office. It was quick and not a big deal :)

Our pediatrician paid attention to DD's and didn't end up doing anything. She was most interested in how well DD ate to determine if it was causing a problem nursing. If it did, she said she'd clip it.

We hd it looked at again at 4 because of speech issues, but it was ruled out again as an issue. He looked at the range of movement for that one.

Haha, sorry for chuckling, but that always seems to happen when you try to prepare for things with a newborn! I hope he doesn't trick you again!
  • He nursed this morning! Praise God. Not an amazing latch... But he stayed on and seemed satisfied with only additional oz from the bottle!!! Two steps forward... I'm pepping for the step back at the next feeding.

Peter is killing me. He's decided he needs to wake up every hour and a half at night to feed but then sleeps for about 3 hour stretched during the day. WTF little dude? I guess his days and nights are mixed up. Anyone have any experience with this?

My little guy does the same thing. I feel like between 3-7am he's up every 45 min wanting to feed. I guess that's his witching hour?  He sleeps so much during the day, we usually have to wake him to eat or he wouldn't get any food.

Anyone else's baby have a mini meltdown with diaper changes. My guy seems to hate them yet hates to be dirty also. I feel so bad, DH usually handles the diaper change since he's faster at it than me lol

Oh God Peter is so dramatic when it comes to diaper changes. He absolutely HATES being naked so I guess he also hates having his butt exposed for those few minutes too. Complete drama queen.
  • My girl will not sleep at night unless she is in my arms. Day she is fine but night, 10 mins down and she is screaming! She is only 11 days old so I think she just needs time but my family keep telling me that I'm spoiling her. Any advice?  Also here is one of her newborn pics...how can I let that face scream and be upset!
You can't spoil a baby, and I think anyone who says that you can is a moron. She went from feeling like she was being held 24/7 to very little in comparison. If your newborn needs comfort, you comfort her. I'd only worry if you start feeling overwhelmed and exhausted from being up with her. Lay her down as much as possible in the daytime. You will both be fine.
Lurking from June. Have you tried swaddling? That combined w white noise helped my DD when she was a newborn. (And agree-you can't spoil a newborn). Also helped me to read Happiest Baby on the Block. Great sleep advice. Good luck!
  • It's been a week. And Roo just won't sleep through the night. I got him to sleep last night but tonight and every other night he screams bloody murder almost the entire night. The only time he's calm is if he's against my chest. I want to say he's overwhelmed but I don't know what to do to help him.

Poor baby, you mean he gets no sleep at all unless on your chest? Have you tried sleep in a swing? DS1 hated being flat on his back and we used the swing a lot to get him to rest at first....

He only sleeps when held but that's only at night. He'll sleep just fine during the day. We have a bouncer but even that only works for a few minutes. Today he didn't get to sleep much during the day because family kept waking him up so I figured he'd sleep tonight. But for some reason once his 10 o'clock feeding rolls around he just won't sleep anywhere but my arms. And at a point it gets too dangerous. (I've dozed off with him in my arms nearly dropped him.) His daddy is no help during the night since he gets up so early for work. I'm at a lost for what to do for him at night. He'said swaddled with a night light and content but just won't sleep in his crib
  • @JayeSkylar I have no advice, but going through exact same thing! Hoping babies start to get acclimated!
  • All of these babies are too precious!  Owen was born on 4/13 weighing 7lb 8oz. When we left the hospital he was 7lb 3oz. At his appointment yesterday he was 6lb 12oz.  So we now have to go back tomorrow for a weight check.  He's eating well though.  He sleeps for longer intervals than I remember my other kids doing.  So surreal to have 4 kids.  Never would I have thought.... Such a blessing.  Congrats mamas!! B

He could have his nights and days mixed up. This happens a lot although I've never dealt with it! Also babies who sleep less during the day don't sleep better at night. I've heard that many times and from experience, concur! That being said I'm not sure how to fix that but try googling this phenomenon of days and nights reversed maybe?

  • Only day 2 and the cluster feeding is horrible. Since yesterday, he cluster feeds for 3-4 hours strstraight and I can't keep up. I just had to wave the flag both times after each three hour feeding session and supplement using an SNS on the third hour. One can allow the nipples to get to a point before they feel like they're going to burn off. The lactation consultant was more than understanding and she gave me props for standing up. He cluster fed yesterday and today about the same time.

Mine does the same! By day he can sleep anywhere you lay him, but at night he doesn't like not having the ability to see you in the dark. So far I've been giving in, and sleeping with him on top of me...
