Successes: Dr is still very pleased with my numbers and I continue to test 2x/week
Challenges: 2 weeks left... that's 16 test strips... and I need a refill - what a waste of money
Recipe/Tips: My favorite side dish right now is this layered veggie sautee... put a little coconut oil in a pan, layer sliced zucchini, sliced onion (I usually half, then slice) sliced tomato... season with a little garlic salt and dill and top with cheddar cheese. Med heat with the lid on and it gets steamy, melty and delicious.
Questions: Anyone find a low carb milkshake yet?! It's all I can think about right now.
Successes: baby has been doing well during NSTs, and despite measuring a bit large at a recent u/s, no talk of early (prior to 39/40 weeks) induction yet.
Challenges: i had about 3 days of uncharacteristicly high/unpredictable numbers. Now, today I've been running on the low end. Go figure.
Also, I just want to be able to stop having to think about food All. The. Time. What can I eat? How much should I eat? What's this going to do to my post meal numbers? This meal was a "good meal" yesterday, will it give me good numbers today? Do I really have to have eggs for breakfast again? Ugh.
Recipe/Tips:
Questions: anyone planning a post delivery splurge/treat meal? What are you dreaming of?
Successes: My numbers have been good, so still no meds. I feel pride every time I see a new OB and they ask, with a raised eyebrow, if my diabetes is diet controlled and I can answer "Yep, diet and exercise." That, and my little guy had been measuring small so they were thinking about inducing me early. Yesterday he tested at the 29th percentile for growth, so no early induction for me!
Challenges: I, too, am about to run out of testing strips and needles and I'm almost done. I'm pretty sure there's no way I've got 2 and a half weeks left.
Recipe/Tips: That veggie sautee sounds great. I had a friend make me a zucchini noodle lasagne with meat sauce and no ricotta. It was AMAZING!
Post delivery splurge: I've relocated to Philly for my birth and my little guy's treatment, and I can't wait to have Beiler's doughnuts. I had one as a splurge last week and it was so good I wanted to cry.
Hi everyone! This is my first time checking in (I think) and I've been trying really hard to eat well so that I don't have crazy numbers. Once I stopped eating so much ice cream, candy, and Big Macs (you can judge me, it's ok haha!) my numbers dropped drastically.
I feel like in my case, all the testing and money spent on supplies and NST appointments is a waste. And I don't really trust the whole GD testing process...see below
Gestational Week: 38
Successes: Not sure I can count it as a success, but my numbers have been exceptionally good lately. without much work on my part. That's because I've been sick/had a stomach bug. I also managed to lose 6lbs, which pleased my midwife.
Challenges: This whole testing 4 times a day thing is a freaking challenge. Either I forget to check before I eat, or, I accidentally eat something within the 2 hour time frame. It's so frustrating to have to wait to eat, when I'm starving, and I know I have food sitting right there in my kitchen.
Recipe/Tips: I found that if I eat scrambled eggs in the morning, washed down with a spinach/banana/almond milk/blueberry kefir smoothie, my numbers stay fairly low for the rest of the day. Also, a little bit of peanut butter as a midnight snack, instead of ice cream or cereal, does a much better job at keeping my fasting numbers low.
Questions: How is it I can test on different hands, and get different numbers? (Hell, I can test on different fingers on the same hand, and get different numbers?) My right hand is consistently lower than my left. How is that an accurate way of telling whether or not I have GD?
And if my doctors had taken blood from my right arm (lower numbers) instead of my left arm (higher numbers), would I have passed the GD test, and have avoided all this in the first place?? So frustrating.

I get lower on my right than my left too! And now that you mention it... my draw for this diagnosis was my left...
I too am a skeptic due to my results, but play along anyway. My Dr reduced me to testing 2x/week which was awesome!
Almost there though - fingers crossed everything goes back to normal when this is all over!
@Monicagail1 the weird high numbers thing followed by lows happened to me around the same time in pregnancy. I was told LO was having a growth spurt. I was really worried about that, but turns out he needed it!
Yikes! Those stupid donuts! Speaking of which! Why haven't I had one yet!?! Growth scans can be deceptive. At 36 weeks my guy was supposedly 6lb which would have put him on schedule to be 8 or more with that spurt. Turned out to be 7lb and 1oz. He's almost back to that now. Not going to lie. The first night was really rough with all the sugar checks on him. He swallowed a ton of fluid during my short pushing stage of labour and didn't want to eat. All of his checks were boarder line and some were low. I didn't sleep at all and my nipples ended up being shredded due to biting because he wasn't hungry.

Get that donut girl!!! I guess I never really thought about what would need to be done testing wise once baby was here... My Dr mentioned that I wouldn't need to continue testing after she was born, but that I would need to do a 2 hr GTT 6 weeks PP. But I never thought to ask about what they would need to do to her! Looks like I've got a new list of questions at my appointment on Thursday! Thanks for the heads up!

I'm just wondering how anyone passes these tests after drinking liquid sugar on an empty stomach. I wish I had that kind of metabolism
