First Word

I got so excited when DD said "mama" for the first time today. I know to her she's just repeating a sound. I have been saying it over and over to her for several weeks now. It was even more thrilling that she said it completely unprompted. I wasn't saying anything at all. Has anyone else's LO said their first word yet or is getting close?

P.S. She has said "ba ba" a lot but I don't consider that her first "word" since we don't use it with her like some people do when referring to a bottle.

Re: First Word

  • About 2 weeks ago LO said Dada and i thought maybe he was just making the sound but he kept saying it and hasn't stopped yet.

My baby boys first word was "agua" water for Spanish lol that's when he was younger. But a few weeks ago he officially said mama first and I think he knows I'm his mama because when he wants me to pick him up or just doesn't want to be on his jumper or walker, he goes like "mama" over and over and it just melts my heart!!!! Where is time going mamas!? Our babies are just such a blessing from God!    <3
  • My DD has been saying Mama for a while now, at first it was just a repeat of what she heard but now, she says it when she wants me. If she's sitting in the floor or jumper and gets bored she will say mama but my favorite time is when we go to the in-laws and they hold her, she will start crying and say mama repeatedly. Best thing ever. And she will just say mom at random.

When LO was born, her crying sounded like "mama". She never had the generic 'wah'  cry. My husband would say her first word is igloo, but I really have no idea. She says "mama",  "dada"  and lots of "blahs" and "ahhs". It sometimes sounds like she says oh goodness and I love you.

It's kind of cute when I walk away. She is so needy that she always has to be near me. If I leave to use the restroom she will start crying and says "mama"  as she crawls after me.
  • My LO yells Mom when she gets hurt, or cries hard or someone she doesn't want holding her gets her lol. Working on getting her to say it more than just when she's upset :)
  • My LO's first word was "Dada." My husband took a week off from work, and the day he went back, she woke up from her morning nap, looked around seemingly very concerned, then looked straight at me and asked "Dada?" It was so adorable, and a little heartbreaking. She also knows "Mama," "Hi," and "Bye-Bye."
