Fur Baby Extra Needy

I heard dogs know when you're pregnant but my Westie who I love dearly is really getting on my nerves lately. He is usually very chill but he has been acting extremely needy these days. It's going to be harder for me to watch him go through this transition of not being the center of the attention anymore once baby comes. Why is he so attention hungry?! This wasn't as bad in the beginning of my pregnancy. We take him out on walks, play with him when we get home from work, but nothing is really enough these days. DH gets so fed up with him and with the baby on the way, DH feels less sympathy for our only [fur] baby. It's all around upsetting to see this shift!!

    Story of my life right now. My big ol' boxer is attached to my hip. Sits on my lap, sleeps right next to me, follows me around the house... I love him but pulllleaze back off a little. Unfortunately when our dog gets needy like this, he also turns into a jerk and will poop or pee on the floor if he feels like he hasn't the attention he wants. It's a little exhausting.

    We have 2 dogs - a yorkie and a doxie mix. The doxie mix has always been a "behind the scenes" kind of dog - he doesn't really like getting much attention. The yorkie has always been a snuggler and is more so now that I'm pregnant (he loves snuggling the bump). Recently though, the doxie mix has started getting ridiculously clingy. So much so I have to push him away because he just gets right up on you and demands attention.

    My pup is super clingy to me now too.  I go to the kitchen he follows me, I walk over to the washing machine to throw a load in he's at my feet, I lay down for the night he cuddles up with his chin in my tummy.  I kinda like it though but, my hubby worries that I will just "kick him to the curb" when the baby comes. I'm home with the dog all day and hope he will be sweet with the baby so I don't have to put him in his crate or anything.

    Same here with a cat. We have two, and one in particular has always kind of been "my baby." He has been super clingy lately. Sometimes it can be cute, but it can also be annoying, like when I'm trying to work on something or just trying to sleep. I am a little worried about how he is going to react when baby comes. If I have to sit and hold baby for long periods of time while nursing, I think the cat will be all up in our business, trying to head butt his way in.

    I also heard our fur babies go through depression when they learn they're no longer the center of attention.

    Ugh, and my dog just begs and begs for me to get all of his tennis balls he shoved under the TV stand...only to shove them under AGAIN. I put pillows in front of our stand to prevent these balls from going underneath yet he managed to shove them through the side. 

    He then looks at me with his big pity me eyes and cries. This is so not him!

    Perhaps they can smell the hormones. My cats are also a bit clingy, especially my old man cat.

    If it really is a drastic change though, OP, you might take him to the vet for a check up.  Sometimes clinginess can be a sign something us off with your pet's health

    So...do dogs know when you're about to go into labor soon? 

    One of my medical offices I manage has a golden retriever and as soon as I came in, he put his nose against my belly and started sniffing it all over. He's seen me a couple of times throughout my pregnancy but he never sniffed my belly before. It was like getting some kind of a medical scan. It's fascinating what must be going through his mind to have him follow his instincts and just sniff my bump. Then he wouldn't leave my side and sat next to me throughout the entire meeting. IS HE GIVING ME A SIGN THAT IT IS ALMOST GO TIME?! Ahhh

    When I was about to go into labor with DD our dog at the time wouldn't leave my side and would cry if I went outside. He totally knew.
