Did any of you guys experience vertigo at any point postpartum?

I'm about 8.5 weeks postpartum and I'm really fatigued still (doesn't help that LO is still not really napping at all during the day or sleeping more than 2.5 hours at night right now!)  Anyway, yesterday I started experiencing a weird vertigo sensation.  Almost like I'm going up and down rocking LO in the glider, when I'm not in the glider.  Kind of like if you get off the treadmill sometimes you can feel like you're still on it?  Only it's lasted two days and it's really odd - like an up and down sensation.  To be fair, I have been in the glider for probably 8 hours a day, so maybe I'm just gliding too much while tired?  I have a check up with the doctor tomorrow am, but I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if it could be a system of sleep deprivation?  It's so strange!

  • Yes, I had this! I still get it occasionally when I'm really tired at 13 weeks pp. for me it was the worst right when I would lie down at night. I figured it was from spending so much time in the glider that I felt like I was still moving, kind of like when you get off a boat... Definitely a weird sensation!

  • Yes at times, especially in the afternoon.  Between the lack of sleep, hormone swings that feel like hot flashes, and when LO has been very fussy on and off for awhile crying, I start getting a mild migraine that can give the vertigo feeling while rocking and soothing LO in the chair. It's like a spinning sensation in my head along with the pain behind my eyes. The things that makes it for me better is drinking cold water, and lying down in a dark, cool room. Or also soaking in baths. I say it's par for the course in new mommyhood with all the other crazy things we endure. It couldn't hurt to get checked out though if you've not had any other experiences with mild or medium vertigo just to rule any other factors.
  • I had it after I had DD1 because I had fluid in my middle ear. Once we knew what was causing it, fixing it was super easy. I suggest talking to your doctor so they can determine what proper treatment is for you.
  • Yes! But I don't spend a lot of time in the rocker, so that doesn't explain it for me. I'm just always mildly dizzy. I'm assuming it's sleep deprivation.
  • Thanks guys!  Glad I'm not the only one.  Mentioned it to my doctor and she said to just call if it doesn't go away in another two days.  It's better today, though still present.  She thinks it's just fatigue + rocking all the time and that it should go away soon.  Fingers crossed!
  • Yes I get this.  Also - sleep gets better. At 8.5 weeks baby wouldn't sleep more than 2.5 intervals at night and would only nap being held.  Now at 13 weeks, she sleeps minimum 5 hr increments at night and naps alone in her crib several times a day for 30-60 min.  Hang in there, you are almost through the toughest part.
  • I'm 15 weeks PP... We don't have a glider, and I have the dizzy, I'm going to pass out, I refer to it as a slipping sensation- my head feels like it's slipping sensations I had it during pregnancy (towards the end) and I'm still having it.
I'm not due back to my doctor until April 20th, even then I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it:-/
