Sore breast

Hi All.  I have stopped breastfeeding after a long weaning schedule.  The last time I pumped, I didn't even get an ounce total from both sides.  That was more than a week ago.  Prior to that I had only been feeding or pumping once a day for the previous 2 weeks or so.  My breasts aren't engorged at all but now my left one is really sore in one spot (kind of the top right side).  Do you think I could have a plugged duct?  I didn't have that at all during breastfeeding so don't know what it would feel like.  Like I said, no pain up until about a week after I stopped feeding/pumping.  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

It could be. If I were you, I'd take a shower and then pump for maybe 3 minutes to relieve pain. It sounds like you did perfectly at weaning though.

  • I also think it could be that. I only get a little sore if I'm a bit engorged, usually during the night. Try pumping and massaging the breast, also drink water, it could help. Keep us updated and I hope you feel better mama!
  • Thanks.  I really don't want to pump after not pumping or feeding for more than a week.  Really, it's been 10 days now.  I can tell there isn't really any milk in there.  I think I'm going to try massaging and warm compresses to see if it helps.  Otherwise I'll call the doctor.
  • Try a hot compress and massage the sore spot in tiny circles.
