I had an awesome birth experience with my son on Saturday. We were home and tucked into our beds 6 hours after he was born. The last 3 days have been very special but now we are sitting at the children's hospital waiting to be admitted. He has jaundice bad enough to need to be treated with phototherapy. I know a 24-48 hour hospital stay isn't the end of the world but man this sucks. Also, since my parents had my 2 year old last night this makes it the longest time I have been away from him. I feel bad and miss him too.
Re: Newborn with jaundice
We were in the high risk catagory for 24 hours, and I had to feed him pumped milk in a bottle. (Which freaked me out due to nipple confusion, but THAT wasn't an issue with him) Inalso had a horrid case of baby blues when they first took him back to the nicu. I got a shower and started rubbing my stomach like I did when I was pregnant and had a complete melt down because I just wanted to hold my baby. The nurse heard me sobbing from the desk and came to check on me. She also brought me a kit kat bar later. The only good thing about it was that I could actually sleep without freaking out the whole time he was "baking."
UVA rays... They still tell you to keep them in sunlight now, but through a window, not fully exposed.
We are at the children's hospital. I have a midwife so I was home shortly after birth. We are waiting results but I expect to be home shortly then back in the morning to confirm everything is going well.
