  • I have no idea how to parent without breastfeeding.  I think DD is about over it, and I really don't know how to put her to sleep without the boob.
  • @texasmama2014 I thought the same thing when we weaned DS at 18 months from nursing at bedtime.  We did a bottle for about two months and then just took that away one night.  Now, we read a story or two and he ASKS to go to his crib.  There are nights when it isn't easy, but they are much less than I expected.  My husband did the switch to the bottle and to without for a couple days before I jumped in to do bedtime again.  It was sort of nice to not be the only one responsible for bedtime!

  • @texasmama2014 DD is almost 18 months and we've just been laying her down since about 12 months. We do bath, book, and then lay her down with a sippy cup with some water in it.  She cried for the first couple of days but now she just goes to sleep.

@LWC1112 we can't be friends. I've watched Gilmore girls all the way through more times than I'm willing to admit.
  • @Lynnlove28 I'm sorry! So I think my biggest hold up is that sometimes in Parenthood I would get really annoyed with Lauren Graham and isn't Gilmore Girls all about her?

  • I loved Parenthood! I tried to watch Gilmore Girls but could never get into it.

My DS (2.5 yrs old) is driving me NUTS today. He's just being mean! I'm counting down the minutes until nap. I don't care if he sleeps, he just needs to go in his bed.
  • @LWC1112 i thought the same thing when I watched parenthood but I think it was more her character itself than her. I love her in Gilmore girls because I love the character she plays. Until I watched parenthood I only ever thought of her as Lorelei lol.
  • @Lynnlove28 Ok that is good to know. I haven't seen her in anything else so wasn't sure if it was the character or just her.

  • I let my kids have way more than their allotted time on their electronics for the past couple of days so I could do things I wanted around the house and take naps without being bothered. It is spring break AND snowing like crazy outside so that made me feel a little less guilty about it.
  • Man I am loving this thread. I started rewatching all the Gilmore Girls over last weekend... and I am already almost done again. I definitely ate Nutella from the jar while doing so.

The character she plays on GG is very different from her character on Parenthood.

  • @mmclark10 @Lynnlove28 I think a major part of my hesitation, ok I know a major part of my hesitation, is fearing that I will lose this incredible bond with her.  She's already transforming into "Daddy's girl", but I know it get my (maybe) 10 minutes at night and first thing in the morning...

  • @texasmama2014 Definitely understand!  I was sad to lose that bond, but had the reassurance of wanting to have another to have it back. :)  And, my little boy still MUST come to mama if something is wrong for comfort. It's tough, do what works for you!

  • @texasmama2014 I had that same fear with DS, although he was much younger, and so now we have a special goodnight song and he and I sing it together every night. It's our special routine and now he asks for it and cuddles up to me while we're singing. It's a hard transition, but you can still have that special time, just doing a different routine, whether it's a song, or book, or just rocking her on your lap. Hugs to you, I know it was heartbreaking when DS started to pick DH over me for comfort and other things so I totally understand your hesitancy!

  • @Hannah0726 I have been the same way! We got a family membership to the Y in our town, and I had all these big plans to go take the classes and bring DS to the daycare and I have completely slacked off. He's starting swim classes there so I'm justifying the membership that way, but I still feel guilty.

  • I have another confession. I want to throat punch DHs grandma. I feel like a terrible person just admitting that. We've been having a lot of issues with MIL here recently she's just been creating a lot of drama for no reason, she did this last time I was pregnant. Anyway, I don't post much on Facebook but I posted last night bragging on DH because he's been so great these past few weeks with getting things around the house done. His grandma commented on it saying how we should just end the drama with his mom and how great that would be in her life right now.

I do not under any circumstances post my personal life/drama on Facebook because it's childish to me. I mainly post pics of DD so family that lives away can see pics of her frequently. I was completely floored when I saw her comment. DH called her about it and she just kept saying "she didn't mean anything by it". We haven't let the drama with MIL affect our relationships with the rest of the family so I don't understand her concern with it honestly given than the grandma doing this is my FILs mom not MILs. I'm so sick of it all it has been nothing but drama with his family for months now.

Therefore all of this has brought me to wanting to throat punch a 78 year old woman. I've run out of patience for the month and therefore won't care until May.

  • @texasmama2014 - We can't do bedtime without a boob either.  I am so over nursing right now (so painful) but I don't want to take that time away from my dd either. I also don't want to give that time with her up, so I feel stuck.  I really just wish I could cuddle and rock her to bed but she just screams for the boob.  I was hoping she would completely self-wean by now but she really doesn't want to give up nap and nighttime nursing sessions.
  • @texasmama2014 I have no advice for you other than maybe it will happen naturally. DD weaned a few months ago, right after the holidays. She always drank just a tiny bit right before I put her down at night. A large part of the progression was my husband started taking over bedtime b/c I was so tired and sick. If you are ready to stop, is there anyway your husband could do bedtime for a while? I still get teary thinking about that stage being done with DD. She occasionally asks to nurse now, but I know nothing is in there and I'm nervous about it being painful. However, I have a feeling she will want to try again when baby is here and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that.

  • So far today, I have ate nothing with any inkling of nutritional value. I need to go grocery shopping and get "healthy" foods and kitchen staples but this couch is so comfy and lots of places deliver. So........ I'll start fresh tomorrow.
