I think it's weird that so many women care if their husband cuts the cord. Meh, it's a tradition, and if he wanted to I'd be on board. But I definitely don't question his commitment to parenting because he doesn't want to. I HAVE to squeeze a bowling ball out my vagina. He doesn't have to cut the cord. Comparing the two is so bizarre. And FWIW, my husband didn't and doesn't want to cut any cord, and he changed every diaper for 2 weeks while I recovered from my c section, woke up every night to bring baby to me for breastfeeding and diaper changing (until he went back to work).
Yes. Totally agree. Who cares if he cuts the cord? I don't get why it's some symbolic thing. If one of us is going to do it, I'd honestly rather it was me. I guarantee you I'm more excited about the disconnecting.
My husband also did not and will not cut the cord for either of our babies, but he has changed more diapers than I have, including every single one during our three PP days in the hospital with #1, and every single poop for the first five months of this pregnancy, when just being in the same room as a stinky diaper made me violently ill.
My H said he didn't want to because he's afraid of messing up. I told him there isn't really anything to mess up, but Idc if he cuts the cord or not. Until I saw it posted on here, I didn't even think of it. In the long term, I doubt either one of us will look back and care either way
Re: cord. I don't remember if H did or not. And of all the things he remembers as being special about DD's birth, the cord never comes up. So I'm on team "meh" about the whole situation also. :-)
My UO: I totally side-eye those new moms-to-be that research every possible baby and baby-related item to the nth degree. I'm talking looking at multiple review sites and you tube demonstrations of non-critical items - not, say, a car seat or something safety related or high-use/high-spend like a stroller.
My suggestion: if you're spending hours debating the receptacle for your child's discarded excrement, put the computer down and do something useful. Like, IDK, getting certified in infant cpr FFS!
Agree. Or like play mats and bathtubs. I was just like this one's cute and tossed it on the registry.
I think the only thing I researched was our travel system and by research I mean I read a few reviews on Amazon and Target....
Dude I spent days researching tubs lol. And the one I picked was great!! It had a little indicator to show you if the water was too cold/hot...which was much needed in December/January. Plus it lasted from NB-6/7 months. And it fit in the sink! Love that thing haha.
You spent days researching tubs?!? EEEEEeeeekkk. How much time did you spend researching the rest of your baby stuff? You know your hand can also tell if the water is too hot. And a baby can take a bath in the sink...
1- don't freak out too much, it was a joke 2- in our old house, baby actually couldn't take a bath in the sink so we needed a tub 3- got all my other stuff from my friends/consignment!
@emztron500 - SAME! We flew to Europe when she was little and I had to decide....wipe down the entire cabin with sanitizer wipes, or just "bulk up her immune system" haha. And she's to this day one of the healthiest babies in town!
I think it's f'ing appalling that there is still a professional sports team called the Redskins (and Indians for that matter). I side eye anyone who wears their logo.
We have local HS (in a VERY conservative area of CA) that is finally being forced to change it's mascot. It's seriously hilarious how many people think THEIR rights are being violated by having to do this.
People are making shirts about how they will always be Redskins and I'm just like, what.
It's a derogatory term. You substitute a derogatory term for any other population and you'd be destroyed. For some reason it's ok for the Indigenous population. Redskin, Indian, Eskimo are all offensive.
I hate that our local football team is the Eskimos I so wish they would change it.

ME too. I'm still hopeful it'll change at some point. I mean for god sakes just call them the rough riders. The CFL seems to be ok with more than one team having that name
