Stomach bug in baby

hey ladies! I feel bad for not having posted in so long, but I'm sure you guys understand how crazy things are... Today little one has had some diarrhea and has been throwing up (not like spit up.) I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to help, or if I should just take him straight to the pediatrician. He's had a very low grade fever (99.0-99.9) and I just want to help him feel better. If there's a similar post, please point me in that direction! Thanks!

The only thing to worry about in a situation like this is dehydration or if the fever spikes much higher.  I'd probably ride it out for a day or so and see how he's doing at that point or call the nurse line at your pediatricians office and see what they say.  They may suggest you add a little pedialyte or water to his formula or give him some in a medicine dropper to help with the possible dehydration.  (Don't give him extra liquids unless you've spoken with a medical professional though, please.)

ETA:  Cuddles are a big help.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • When my first child was about a year old she had the stomach bug I called Dr and she asked about number of wet diapers. She had one wet diaper the entire day due to dehydration and wasn't keeping anything down (not even water). The Dr ended up calling in an anti nausea medication that really helped. I would call the dr to be on the safe side. I'm not sure if they can prescribe anything being that LO is so young. Hope LO gets well soon and you don't get it!
  • We all had a stomach bug that was super contagious two weeks ago. LO got so dehydrated that I took him to the hospital. He wasn't eating or having enough wet diapers. He was throwing up and had diarrhea. They told us (after giving him enough fluids for an entire day) that if he keeps refusing to eat, because they have associated eating with throwing up, to try some pedialite in a different bottle, (we use Doc Browns but we have a different brand bottle), the change of the nipple might get them to drink it. And if that didn't work, to use a soft spoon or plastic syringe and give it to him that way. Only a teaspoon every 15/20 minutes for an hour. And then gradually introduce formula/BM.

Also, we placed a towel down in his crib and let him sleep with just a diaper on, cooled the room to 70, and that seemed to help him sleep a little easier. I also checked on him every 30 for a few hour just to make sure he didn't choke on his throw up. I'm sorry that you have to go through the stomach bug with your LO. I hope it gets better soon.

My DD got a bad cold two weeks ago and had diarrhea and vomitting. The pediatrician said to keep feeding (we EBF) as much as possible and to look for one wet diaper at least every 8hrs. Luckily DD never lost her appetite so we didn't have dehydration issues. You can also look for things like dry mouth, crying with no tears, or sunken fontanelles.

Her diarrhea and vomitting lasted days. After the diarrhea she then got constipated for two days. That was the worst part as she was in pain. Apparently constipation is normal after a bout of diarrhea so keep an eye out for that.

If if you're taking a rectal temperature, your reading is normal and not a low grade fever.  A rectal temperature above 100.4 is considered a fever.
