TTC After a Loss

What's the point?

I found out a few weeks ago that I have antiphospholipid syndrome.  My doctor referred me to a hemetology doctor and I saw him on Monday.  Well he ran more tests and called today to let me know that not only do I have antiphospholipid syndrome I have the rarest strain of it.  So there isn't really a set of guidelines for treatments at this time :(
I'm being referred to a high risk OB and another hematologist with more expertise in APS.  I just keep thinking what's the point!? Just having one of those days where I feel I've lost all hope.

Re: What's the point?

  • Hugs and love sent your way - a diagnosis is the start of a process that will hopefully end with a plan - but it is still so hard.

  • @LCRbelle I'm so sorry you got that news. I'm sure it feels like there is little chance for success. You can and should totally be pissed about that.

But, before you count yourself out, see what the expert has to say. There's a chance that s/he has familiarity with other successful cases or research that may be able to help you retain a pregnancy.

Do you already have an appointment? I know it's hard to have hope - I struggle with the same, but my fingers are crossed that you get to meet the specialist soon and they can give you comfort and reason to keep TTC.

    Big hugs.

  • Thanks ladies

My mom remarked when I told her that it is now a marathon not a sprint.  I just wish the doctors I went to five years ago with my first two losses would have listened to me and run tests after I begged and begged.

@fivetimesnoluck no appointments scheduled yet just more waiting! Right now I'm waiting on my gyno to give me the referral information.  Unfortunately they are closed on Friday so it won't be until next week at the earliest I can even try to make an appointment.

My doctor hasn't given me much info at this point really, I'm assuming we need to avoid TTC for now and I'm also assuming I should keep taking my baby aspirin.  Who knows! I just feel like I'm treading water but slowly sinking further and further in. Feel so overwhelmed.
  • @SnobunnieMel the cat definitely brought a smile to my face :)
  • I'm so sorry. I hope you're able to get in to see the specialist sooner than later, and that they have a concrete plan for you. I know more delays is not what you want right now, but hopefully this is all working towards you having your rainbow soon! We are here for you.
  • I'm very sorry. I think that knowing is much better than not, even though it's a terrible blow to learn. Hopefully you'll be onto a new treatment plan soon.
