Boy Nursery

Anyone have creative ideas for a boy nursery? We have been looking but are still not sure! We have checked babies r us and etsy anywhere else we could look?

Re: Boy Nursery

  • I'm not very into themes for rooms. For DS, I just did bright colors. His bedding had all of the primary colors. His curtains are red with tie backs I made using fabric that had all bright colors. The rocking chair has a bright red cushion. Breathable bumper is blue. Changing pad covers we have a blue and red. I also made runners for the dresser and top of his bookcase that matched the curtain tie backs. SIL did several paintings that were bright, too.

If I could post pics on mobile, I'd attach a pic or two. It turned out really cute.

  • I'm not into themes either, but I prefer a soft calming color palate.  In fact, DD's room is iceberg blue, by Benjamin Moore, because pink it's too much of a stimulating color AND I just wasn't into painting a room pink.  It made everyone think we were having a boy until I put up a ruffle curtain lol.  I have since decorated with a few light pink and purple accents and a pink and grey area rug.  For her big girl room we actually just painted it the exact same color as the nursery because I love it so much.  We're either going to leave the nursery the same blue for baby boy or change it to a light grey.  For DD I bought random crib sheets that went with the wall color from PBK.  This time I actually found a set that I like at Kohl's that happens to have a woodland theme, but really I just like the colors and patterns on the sheets - it's not going to dictate any sort of theme, but I'm still looking around a bit.

  • Boy nurseries are tough! I wanted to keep it "baby" themed and not sports or cars or too "big boy" so I used the animal alphabet set from pottery barn kids for my DS. Then I decorated the sky blue walls with animal decor that went with the bedding. It was calm and soothing and even now he loves to look at the letters and say his ABCs or show me which animals he likes.

  • We're going simple. For DS I did "jungle theme" since it was easy to find things and I didn't have to paint. This LO will have gray/white with giraffes. We are renting so anything we (Or realistically the hubby) paints will need to be neutral. Plus I work full time so the more relaxing the area the better.
  • I didn't think I would be into themes either (wasn't for DD), but I found some adorable Pinterest ideas for boy rooms with "hunting lodge" themes.  I'm thinking of doing the colors in navy and gray with dark woods, and I've seen some cute linens on babybedding.com with antlers, deer, and buffalo check.  It's a little more "big boy" than baby boy, but I like that it'll transition well as he grows older.

  • Since we're hoping to have one more after this one, we decided to go with a relatively neutral theme/color scheme, so we're doing greys (grey crib, grey dresser, etc) and sort of a jungle/animal theme. I got a really pretty grey and light blue elephant painting for the wall that goes well with his furniture, and we're getting storage cubes that are tan with an animal on each one to keep toys and stuff in. There's also this really cute play mat that grey, black, and white with animals prints on it that I want to get for the floor. We're keeping it super simple because I know he'll have more of a "personality" and preferences in a couple of years so we can add more to it or change it when that time comes. We just re-did or older kids' rooms (both age 5) with more tailored decor and they LOVE it.

  • DH and are either doing The Lion King theme (my favorite movie ever!!) or The Hobbit theme. We haven't quite decided yet. I think it's a lot of fun doing a theme. Yes, its totally for the parents and not the baby but still so fun!

  • We found some animal alphabet cards on Etsy that we're going to hang, so the "theme" will be animal alphabet.  We're doing blues for the bedding, and will decorate with other animals around the room.
  • With my first I went with grey and pastel yellow. Some chevron of either color as sheets and then added a few stuffed elephants. Simple and even gender neutral so it can be reused for the next regardless of the sex.

  • I think we're going with a vintage airplane theme, mostly because I have a huge old map that I love, and so I'm imagining building the room around that.  There aren't too many baby items at babyrus, etc that fit the theme, but Etsy has lots of cute things!
  • I LOVE the vintage airplane theme.  If you're at all close to Fredericksburg, Texas, we saw several cute vintage airplane things in small shops there! Etsy is probably a good go-to as well.
  • @PineappleMD We're doing vintage airplanes too! There are so many cute ideas out there. We're doing it partially because it's cute, partially because DH is Air Force and because 'Merica!  :#

My cousins did a Lion King theme and it was awesome!  Of course, he's an artist so I don't think I could ever make a room look so amazing, but it's a great room!

:(  We're in northern Ohio, so probably the farthest possible location from Texas - but thank goodness for the internet and mail order!  Hahaha what did people do before technology?!?
  • I looked on Pinterest! I had already picked out the bedding (with the help of my 6y/o) and it is grey/white/aqua and has elephants on it. My nephew is making a painting for baby's room and I'm going to do a few as well, and we are going with curtains in the same colors, with an Elephant pattern on them. I've never gotten to really decorate a Nursery before, because we rented, and could only do so much. I'm so excited to be able to do what I want in this baby's room now that we own!
  • We kept DS's pretty neutral, whites and beige's with some light blue mixed in (baby blanket, mobile, etc) but we got a huge dark grey birch tree wall decal set that had little blue birds and squirrels and so one wall was taken up by that. It was really pretty and simple.

  • I painted my DS's yellow.   Did gray and blue accents.   Now that DD is on the way, we are going to keep her in the yellow room and move him to a different room and will Just  accent the yellow room with different colors.
