so I have my NT on Monday but I was wondering if it's done abdominally or tv. I'm quite round in the middle and I'm worried it won't work with an abdominal.
also how long does it last? anyone find out the sex from it?
Mine was done abdominaly. It was about 20 minutes, but then the technician left to see if he could match it up with the blood test to give me results right away, and he could! That part took the longest, but I guess because I had done my blood test the week or so before, it was available to them.
Good question... I go Monday as well. I have a midsection too but I was able to see the baby abdominally so I don't think you'll have a problem @mrszoess.
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
Mine was abdominal and it lasted about 30 minutes. I also got the results that day because I had done my blood work earlier. I didn't even ask about gender because we're team green!
I had mine about 3 weeks ago. It was abdominal and lasted about the same as everybody else (20-30 minutes). Technician told me everything looked good but we got the official answer about a week later. I was only 12 weeks at the time so she couldn't tell the gender yet. We are waiting till my 20 week appointment for that.
I have my NT scan on Tuesday next week. I had blood tests last week but that was only for "prenatal profile". Is there another blood test that I need to go along with the NT scan? If so, I wonder if they are just planning to take that blood while I am there for the NT scan? Thanks ladies.

Yes, the prenatal profile is standard I think and checks for things like HCG, Progesterone, TSH, blood sugar, etc. The blood work for the NT scan is just a finger prick and will most likely be done at your appt on Tuesday if you haven't done it already.

I had blood drawn the week before, I go in Saturday. There was an official form that the lab mails to the state. Dr said I should have results day of scan, don't know about a finger prick.
Mine have always been abdominal but this time she did both, I have no idea why. It lasted maybe 20 min. I did ask if she could tell the sex because im pretty sure I saw a weiner but she was super unfriendly and said no.
Mine was mostly abdominal but a quick check tv, but the abdominal portion took about an hour. Baby was in a weird position and the doctor couldn't get the measurements he needed. At one point we took a break and he told me to walk around for 10 mins (and pee a little bit because my bladder was bursting), then we tried again. He said it sometimes takes this long and that's why he always books these as the last appointment of the day.
It was abdominal for me. Tech said she was 80% sure it was a boy. We went on the very last day that you could do it and it was pretty obvious that we were having another boy as soon as they put him on the screen. The ultrasound lasted about 20 minutes. We were able to see which ovary the egg came from and the blood pumping through the umbilical cord, it was pretty awesome.
Abdominal my last pregnancy. Baby was not cooperating and the tech couldn't get the measurement she needed. I had to go back the next week and try again. I had my blood drawn the day of the second scan.
Mine lasted 20-30 min and was done both abdominally and tv, but that could because they're considering me high risk. Either way, as soon as he put the transducer on my abdomen, we could tell it's a boy. He was sitting legs wide open and there was noooooo doubt lol. Obviously this will depend on the position of the baby, and also it's harder to tell with girls.

My little peanut had his/her legs tightly crossed the whole time. It was really cute. S/he was basically like "Nope, not gonna find out today!". I was only 11+3 so it was likely too early anyway. I hope they get the leg open memo for the AS!

For my first, mine was abdominal and probably 20-30min too. While they wouldn't tell me for sure the gender, the tech speculated (and it's obviously just speculation at that point) boy based on the nub and she was right. I was 12w5d.
My scan took about 30 minutes and was abdominal. The tech took all kinds of measurements and looked for all the organs. They also let me take a break to pee, because they had to do the first part of the scan with a full bladder. The tech told me right then that the neck was nice and thin, and the nasal bone was defined, so physically no markers for concern. They weren't able to tell the sex (12 weeks).
The entire appointment took about 2 hours. They did a full history/high-risk profile, and then after the tech was done, I had to wait for the doctor to come in and go over all the images with me and discuss the plan for go-forward. Maybe my situation is a little different, but if you're worried about time I would for sure ask. When they scheduled the appointment they told me the scan would take no more than 45 minutes - they didn't tell me all the other stuff they would do.
@CaptainPhasma It depends on if they're doing the first trimester screen or the cell-free dna test to check for aneuploidy. Cell-free dna is more accurate and tests for more. First trimester screen is the finger prick test that sometimes accompanies the NT scan.
Hi So I had my NT scan done Wednesday and it came back slightly abnormal measuring at 3.40 mm...has this happened to anyone else I've been freaking out! I go for my blood test tomorrow and I see a specialist Tuesday. Anyone know the chances of my baby being born with abnormalities? This is my second baby and none of this happened the first time around!
@lecyr511 my doctor explained ratios to me based on my age and stuff god forbid something was wrong. I don't wanna quote him but I think it's 1 in 1000 if nothing is wrong and then it changes from there. did they do bloodwork also?
My understanding is the blood work is necessary to make any determinations. Try not to freak out! Sorry this is stressful and I hope you get your bloodwork back quickly.
I went for my scan last week and baby wouldn't stop moving so they weren't able to get the required perfect picture. They said from what they could tell it didn't look thick, so we're stuck doing second tri blood testing only, which is slightly less accurate.

I had my NT ultrasound today, and my blood drawn about two weeks ago. US is done abdominally, and its too soon to tell the sex of the baby. That said, with DS the US tech said it looked pretty obvious we were having a boy and she was right. She caveated it with the "its too early to be certain" statement but it was fun guessing. Same tech today but she didn't give us her guess.
