TMI - yeast infections?

Is anyone else getting a bunch of yeast infections? I hardly ever got them pre-pregnancy and I really don't recall having any with my last pregnancy....but this time around, I keep getting them. It sucks!! I've used Monistat and also my ob/gyn prescribed Terazol, but neither seems to work for more than a few weeks.

I have a call into my ob/gyn, but figured I'd post here while waiting for a call back to see if anyone else is experiencing this craziness...

Re: TMI - yeast infections?

  • @romil I know it's very common in pregnancy. Personally, I think an antibiotic for a UTI may have given me one, but I haven't called my doc yet because I'm not convinced it's a real one. I don't have any discharge. I just get randomly itchy, like so itchy it almost makes me cry. Not an everyday thing and oddly enough, rubbing coconut oil down there seems to help...

  • I got my very first one last pregnancy; it went away with 2/7 monistat doses. Very common in pregnancy.

Thanks girls. I know it's common, but I thought that 5 yeast infections so far (and I'm only 18 weeks) was really excessive.

  • super common. I have had both BV and YI. very annoying but what are ya gonna do??? :/
  • Yep. I have had recurring infections (every few months) since my first pregnancy. I had one a couple of weeks ago and used Monistat 7, and seems to have worked really well. So far it hasn't returned (fingers crossed). I also make sure to wear loose fitting cotton underwear now, and have been making myself eat yogurt everyday (even though I don't really like yogurt).

  • I thought I had one a few weeks ago but my midwife checked it out and said it wasn't. I second the cotton undies and have found using Summer's Eve down there made a big difference.

  • I'd have your doc test you for BV.  I have had one for the past 2 months.   OTC meds work for a week than it comes back.  I got tested last week and yep sure enough it is BV.  I'm now on an oral RX.   It's no surprise to me though as I get it every time I am pregnant.

  • Ugh! They are the absolute worst.
My OB called and told me I had one but I wasn't having any symptoms so they told me to just ignore it.  Now a month later it's back and it's horrible!!

    I don't know how you've dealt with 5 in 18 weeks!

@618mom22boys I had BV and dos the treatment. However, my obgyn has not checked to make sure if it's gone. Should I be worried? I don't want the infection to harm the baby? I have No symptoms really
  • Ah825  if you don't have any symptoms I wouldn't worry about it.  I've never been retested after treatment.

@618mom22boys the only thing that worries me is that I didn't have any symptoms beforehand either. Oh well.
  • @618mom22boys if your OB is anything like mine, they want you to pee in a cup at every visit - typically this is the stuff that they test for if you have a history of infections. In my case, I had a UTI and when I go in next they are going to do another urine culture to make sure I'm clear, even though I finished the antibiotics over a week ago.
  • Most docs usually only test for bladder or kidney infections, diabetes, dehydration and preeclampsia with those samples. Not YI or BV,

  • I've had an ongoing yeast infection since February that has not fully went away. I tried prescribed Canesten, but it didn't cure me. Very annoying. The worst part is it's ruining my sex life. I have a history of them pre-pregnancy and got them every few months.
