TTC After a Loss

Timing BD after positive opk

So I had my positive OPK this morning, earlier than I was hoping for, as DH doesn't get back from a trip till tmmw afternoon. If we BD tomorrow do you think we've missed the window? The instructoms say to have sex within 24-48 hours, but I read elsewhere it says within 12 hours. Just hoping maybe tomorrow could still work out for us. Hate to have to wait another month. Ugh life getting in the way!

Re: Timing BD after positive opk

  • It depends on how fast you ovulate after a positive opk. Definitely make it happen it though.

  • I can totally relate. My husband travels a lot for work and my fertility friend calendar and ovulation timing basically dominates our discussions about when he does so. Like @ThePax89 says, it really depends on how long your surge is. I can get anywhere from 1 positive (usually at night 6-9PM)  to over 24 hours (rare). For me, I usually get a temp spike the morning after my evening positive OPK. I think ideally when using OPKs you are supposed to be having sex prior to the positive (so that sperm is waiting for ovulation to take place) and then ramping up the frequency once you get the positive opk for 12-48 hours. For me, I know it always gave me some hope just to have tried in the relative window, you know? Hope it works out for you and that egg takes it's sweet time!
  • The cycle that I got my BFP we had basically the same experience. DH returned home from working out of town and I thought for sure we missed our window. Turns out we did not!

  • I typically get a positive OPK two days in a row then O either the second day of the positive, or the following day.  Just jump him as soon as he gets home :)
  • I figure it's always worth a shot.  It's possible it could work out for you, and if it doesn't you didn't really lose anything by trying.  But I'd give it a go, just so I didn't spend all my time wondering "what if we had..."
