Infertility

New to the Bump, been trying for 2+ years

Hi all!
Hubby and I have been trying naturally for two years. He had a bit of a low sperm count, so he was given clomid to boost his numbers. This worked, but we still weren't getting pregnant on our own. So now we've decided to start with IUIs.

I just had my first IUI on Sunday (two days ago). I took letrizole, Follistim, and Ovidril in preparation. I start progesterone tonight.

I had two mature follicles when the IUI was done. I've also had mild cramping ever since, and some bloating. I assume this is normal? But this two-week-wait is making my brain think I am pregnant, hoping these are symptoms. Anyone with a successful IUI experience similar things?

Thank you in advance for helping keep me sane during this TWW. : )

Re: New to the Bump, been trying for 2+ years

  • Hi and welcome! I hope your stay is short. I am completely ignorant when it comes to MF infertility, as my DH was A-Ok in that regard. So far as we can tell all the issues are with me. No IUIs yet for us either, still trying TI. :( I'm sure other ladies on here though have experience with both of those things. However I did take Letrizole/Femara and did the Ovidrel trigger shot. I only had one follicle though, but I guess that's all it takes! :) I totally hear you on the 2 week wait. I'm a few days late, but I'm trying not to think too much about it because I think it's probably just the meds affecting my cycle. I'm going to test this weekend though.

  • @LeFemmeViolette Welcome! Unfortunately, you don't want to read too much into symptoms until your TWW is over. The meds can really mess with you, and it's too early to have major symptoms. Follistim made me bloaty and cramped, and with the extra follicles you produced, extra cramping with ovulation is to be expected. After my ER in February I looked like I was 3 months pregnant! FX that this is your time!

  • Welcome. Unfortunately, it is way too soon to have pregnancy symptoms. It takes 7-12 days for a fertilized egg to implant and start to cause pregnancy symptoms.
I've had bloating and cramps from IUIs before. The progesterone may make your symptoms worse, and you could have other side effects such as nausea or tender breasts from the progesterone.
  • @LeFemmeViolette I don't have any advice as I am just getting started with my first medicated cycle, but wanted to welcome you. I just started to post on this board today too, after lurking for a while. You'll be in my thoughts. The TWW is excruciating sometimes.

  • @LeFemmeViolette Welcome! I had my first IUI last month and am 12dpiui now, so almost at the end of my TWW (these last few days have been dragging by). I had two mature follicles as well. I didn't notice any cramping or significant bloating after IUI, but I know everyone's different and hear the meds can give pregnancy-like symptoms. The past several days I've had sore breasts, but trying not to focus on it too much since it's likely a side effect from the meds (currently on progesterone & estradiol). Good luck with your TWW, I hope it goes quickly for you and that your stay here will be short!
