My hubby gets two weeks off in the summer. Probably one week in June and one in July! Or two weeks back to back. We probably would just go somewhere for a few nights maybe a week. I was thinking a cabin somewhere.. We want to go somewhere with our little guy. He will
Be 9 or 10 months. Any ideas? Getting a little stir crazy and looking forward to a trip. I'd love to do Mexico but July isn't the time to go so
Probably save that one till next year when he's a year and a half. Where can we go? And have a successful trip? We are from Canada. I miss travelling.

Re: Where to travel

  • We are in the same boat.  We are looking for some short weekend trips to take LO with us to get used to traveling. We are from New York.  We used to take weekend trips all the time to places within 3 hours distance but now with LO we know those areas we used to go aren't that much fun or a lot for the kiddos to do. So we are looking for new spots for driving distance.  We do have a trip coming up in August - Ocean City, MD. We used to go every year around July 4th (this year pushed back a bit as a friend who we go with will have a newborn in July).  So we are looking to take some smaller trips before the big on in August to get LO used to the travel -- because as of right now he hates the car at night :( which is usually the best time to travel of course :)

I will say though if your willing to go that far -- Ocean City, MD is great for the kids and adults! There is a lot for everyone to do, the beach, the main strip, etc. there are tons of places that are great for the LOs at all ages. WE can't wait to introduce our LO to the little people water parks :)

  • Agree with ocean city MD, love it there. I'm also looking for a good place to take a mini 4-5 days vacation ... I want drive through, not fly. I'm from NY, so I was worried that ocean city might be a far drive! So nervous of taking LO out for a vacation. She sleeps so sweet in the crib and hasn't had a night sleeping outside of it or in a different setting.
I should prob get her used to it though !!

  • Maine or Rhode Island. Also Mackinak Island in Michigan is one of my favorite spots. Depending on where you are in Canada, Wisconsin or Northern Minnesota have some beautiful spots with really affordable cabin rentals. I think we might be heading to Toronto this summer to visit my cousin and her twins.
  •  Rememberr if you go far south that there are Zika concerns. (South and Central America, Puerto Rico).
but it doesn't sound like you guys are going that far.
I love Ogunquit, Maine. It's family friendly, nice beaches, trolleys the kids will love. Also thought the NC Outer Banks were great. Or Cape Cod, Massachusetts or Newport, RI. There's always lots of kids in these places.
  • The white mountains are great, North Conway or Lincoln New Hampshire were my favorite places when I was a kid, i guess they still are, look up clark's trading post and story land
  • Lurker from October 15. With my oldest at 9 months we went to Rehoboth Beach, DE and stayed at a. Campground where we lived in a tent for a week. We had an air mattress, pack and play, and mini fridge in the tent and the campground had showers and bathrooms. It was such an enjoyable experience getting to just hangout. We took the bus every day to and from the beach and let our car parked. It was so much fun!! If we would go I'd rent a cabin/apartment something this time with 5 kids but I'd do a week beach trip for sure!

if I had the money I'd vaca to San Diego and show my fiancé where I used to live and take the kids to all the beaches and enjoy the amazing weather there!
  • The Jersey shore is a lot of fun.  There's a lot to do in Chicago, that could be nice.  Seattle is one of my favorites!

  • We live in Rhode Island and there is so much to do here in the summer! I would recommend Newport, RI and there are lots of fun places in Massachusetts. Manchester by the Sea in Mass is great! Also check out Old Orchard Beach on the coast of Maine!
