Baby boy!! First time mom

Are there any first time moms having a baby boy also? I cannot wait to meet my prince but I have to admit that I am scared of raising a boy. I've been around girls and I initially wanted a baby girl. My baby boy is going to be exactly what i need and I am so grateful for him already!

Anyone one else can share my sentiments?

Some support and company will be nice :)

Re: Baby boy!! First time mom

  • I'm a FTM who is having a boy too. I am pretty terrified as well. Thankfully, my husband has had plenty of experience around kids because I haven't changed a diaper before. Congratulations!

  • I'm a FTM having a boy and I am super excited! I babysat two little boys from the time I was 13 until I graduated high school and they are so much fun! It's really easy to entertain them. Digging in the dirt was one of their favorite things to do from ages 1-5 haha. I remember someone was building a house on the lot next door and we would sit and watch in amazement and play with their little toy backhoes for hours! congrats!! :)
  • hahaha! im in for a ride with my boy :)
  • I'm team green this time around but I have a 2 1/2 yo boy. And he's something!  Seriously, he's awesome and adorable and funny. But he's also a bundle of energy. He always keeps me on my toes!

Little boys are awesome. I wasn't sure if I had a preference for boy vs girl last time but I think I hit the lottery with this kid. Though i also say he's my decoy kid - he's only this great to get me to have a second kid. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop any day now lol

I'm on my 5th boy, ranging from 17-12 mos and I wouldn't have it any other way. Boys are the absolute best!!!!!!
  • DH and I are expecting twin boys. For 20 weeks, we were convinced they were girls, had girl names picked out even.  I admit that after the anatomy scan, not only was I in shock, but I had a small feeling of disappointment.  I have also been around mostly girls and the thought of raising two boys at once intimidated me.  But, After the initial shock wore off, I realized how lucky I am. I can't wait to meet my little boys, play with trucks, get dirty, and play ball.  I keep getting told that little boys are the best and just LOVE their mommy.  I am so excited now!!
  • FTM of a boy over here too! I've felt this one was a boy from the beginning, though DH was convinced it was a girl. Although we would have been happy either way, I'm so excited to be having a boy for DH - he grew up with 3 sisters, and I have two sisters and two stepsisters, and I know he's just so thrilled to have this new little guy joining our life

  • I am also a FTM expecting a baby boy!! I am excited but still very nervous!

  • FTM to a boy as well.  I also saw myself as a mom to girls (only me and my sister growing up with my mom really instilling strong feminist values).

I was so nervous when we found out it's a boy, until I realized how much almost more important it is to raise our boys with the same values I would be raising a girl to have. And I also realized I was such a tomboy growing up and I've always had an easier time with boys. It'll be great to watch him one day be a big brother :)

  • I have mostly girls in my family too and I was really nervous when I found out we were having a boy the first time around. Now, this is my normal. The constant running, climbing, scraping elbows and knees, making big Oooh sounds at buses, planes, trucks, and the obsession with lizards. A friend of mine has two little girls, we went out to dinner the other night and she was amazed how non-stop he was and how when he fell and scraped his knee that he barely made a sound and just kept running. DS is non-stop and very rough-and-tumble but it's been awesome, so no worries you will figure it out as you go along. We still don't know what the next one will be but the way I see it, it's a win-win.

  • These boy stories are so funny and heartwarming!!
  • Boys are awesome. I love what @Bookhousegirl said about raising a boy with strong values.

Last school year, I busted one of my 11th graders at parent conferences for some pretty misogynistic comments in a paper. His mom's reaction was the best. She stared at him for a minute, then said quietly, "This is not the man I've raised you to be." He literally cowered.

He wrote an open letter to women as an apology, apologized to me personally, and followed up later in the year with an essay arguing for gender rights. I don't know what else his mom said to him, but it stuck. This year, as I was passing through the cafeteria, I heard him criticize two of his friends for being disrespectful toward women. He didn't know anyone was listening.

I hope that as DS develops his morals and values, I can be as strong a compass as my student's mom was for her son.
  • Not a FTM,  but a "boymom" nonetheless.  I'm currently pregnant with my 3rd boy, and while I initially wanted a girl, I am so happy to be having another boy!  My boys are my biggest fans, and my 6 y/o thinks the world revolves around his momma! I told DH that it's probably a good thing I'm not having a girl, because our house isn't big enough for 2 princesses,  and  I don't want to give up my crown! ;)
  • Reading all of these posts is getting me so excited about having a baby boy. Thanks for sharing!

  • I have a 21 month boy and I'm team green again for my 2nd. I always pictured having a girl and was nervous to have a boy, but I've fallen in love with my little dude, I am a bit nervous to possibly have a girl this time! We'll see!
I totally agree on girl clothes being cuter. But, boy toys are WAY cooler I realized trying to find a non-princess Christmas present for a 5 yr old girl cousin. Ugh!

  • I'm FTM and we are having a boy! We are ecstatic. I wanted a boy sooo bad. The reason is that we have a lot of girls in the family and having a boy would be a great change of pace. I would be more nervous if I were having a girl for some reason!

  • I love all of my children equally. That being said, I totally agree with @bananers about a mother's bond with a son being indescribable.

The fact there will someday be one more man in this world as awesome as my husband is pretty cool.

  • I am a FTM expecting a baby boy and, like you, am nervous. I feel like a girl would have been much more natural for me. However, I am still over the moon to be welcoming this little man into my life. I'm nervous but so excited at the same time.

  • I'm a FTM having a boy and I'm so excited!  I have one sister so, I really don't have any experience with boys but, it will be fun to learn along the way.  I'm most excited to see baby boy and hubby "bro out" together - watch the big game together, wrestle/rough house, play superheroes, get muddy at the park, all that stuff little boys think is fun.. I may or may not dress them in matching outfits during family outings! Haha

I do hope I can have a large family with both boys and girls though - the girl clothes are just too darn cute!!
