Name Advice

So I have a question about a middle name.
I'm really loving the name Hattie for baby girls first name, but struggling with the middle name.
My grandfather's middle names were Gene and Eugene, so I am leaning towards that as an option.  Would it be weird to name her Hattie Gene and keep the middle name the (typically) masculine spelling?  Would making it Jean still be paying homage to these special men?
I'm so torn!  It doesn't feel the same to me, but maybe I am overthinking it!?!?
Help!!

Re: Name Advice

  • For DD we used my grandfather's middle name Ray. We considered leaving it the more masculine spelling but decided to change it to Rae. Everyone knows where the name came from. The spelling doesnt really matter for us. Honestly, I just liked the feminine spelling more and that was the only reason we changed it.

  • Hattie Jean sounds adorable to me!  I think it totally pays homage to your grandfathers.  Love it!
  • LOVE Hattie Jean or Gene
  • I like Hattie Jean. People will know
  • I say either way. I think Hattie Gene is super cute.
  • I think Hattie Gene is adorable! Changing the spelling to make it look more feminine doesn't really seem like a big deal especially with a middle name. There are so many unisex names these days that I wouldn't even think of side eyeing it.
  • There is always the feminine form, Eugenia. Jean has a different origin.
  • Love Hattie Jean. I would add that you might consider Harriet as the first name, as Hattie is technically a nickname of Harriet. It would give your LO a more formal option as an adult (Hattie might not wear as well professionally).

My grandpa's name was Harry Eugene. :)
