The CSection Shelf

This is part question/part rant. Are there any other cs mamas out there with a persistent cs shelf?

That little ridge of scar tissue will just not break down into a more normal texture. By this point, I had hoped that it would blend into my bump, especially since I carry low,  but no such luck. It's like I have a rope along the underside of my bump just above my incision, then the outer incision is still fairly tight against my pelvis (considering the circumstances). I can sort of feel it breaking up a bit, but since I still have only partial sensation just above my scar, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on with the tissue. My OB isn't worried, so I'm not worried-- but I'm still annoyed by it.

Any TTMs+ have a cs shelf that improved after a pregnancy? I know this is probably something that I just have to live with longterm, but since my body produces scar tissue like a factory, and my other scars have softened and faded some with pregnancy hormones, I had somewhat expected this to as well. Please give me hope or comisserate! :)

I have essentially had 3 c-sections since 2010 (thanks to being fibroid factory) where they've cut me in the same place. Each surgery was about 2 years apart and the more time that passed the better it healed. I recall having that rope feeling after DD was born but it did go away. When was your last C/S??
I'm still a bit tingley and numb above my incision area but it hasn't even been a year since my last surgery so I'm sure that's a factor.

Not sure if that was helpful at all or not. Sorry!

@NB817 It'll be 2yrs ago in less than 2w from now. That does help, thank you do much! I'm sure everyone is going to be a little different, but I'm trying to get a sense of the range of experience. Searching forums has been largely useless because what comes up most is what to do right after you've had one (which I did) or how to get rid of the fat collection, which isn't my issue.
  • I don't have that, but my c/s was 6 years ago. I think yours will get better with time! HTH
  • I don't have it either, my last c section was 4 years ago.

My c-section was in 2010, and mine faded with time.  I would say it didn't really go away until closer to three years, though
  • I had to google this to see what it was!
no shelf here, though I have a roll that starts just above the scar so that might be making it. my C-sect was 2 years ago (on the 22nd lol) and I have a thick ridge like scar that aches and itches like hell instead of a lovely line. However no numbness/tingling or anything.

  • I haven't been able to see my c-section scar for months because it is so low so I have no idea if there is a shelf!  I'm sorry you're having discomfort with it, though.
