Best place to shop for crib?

Where do you think is the best place to shop for a crib? I'm looking for opinions on the bigger/national chains. Target seems like the easiest place to go, but when I read the reviews of their cribs a lot of them mention poor quality, cheap finishes, dings/imperfections right out of the box, etc. Obviously this crib doesn't need to last forever, but I would still like quality for my money. STM's or those who've done their shopping early, where do you recommend for crib shopping? I'd prefer to see them in person than shop online.

Re: Best place to shop for crib?

  • With DD, we splurged on a nice special order 4-in-1 bed from BBB, thinking I would convert it and this would be her bed for a long time. It's still in pretty good condition (considering the beating she has put into it) but I can't imagine it holding up for the amount of time I originally expected.

This time around, I just bought a relatively inexpensive one from Walmart and I'll just buy a toddler bed or big girl bed when new baby is old enough. I was going to go with the the DiVinci Jenny Lind from Target but found a Baby Mod through Walmart that had amazing reviews online. I did a lot of research through blogs and other websites to determine what would work for us since I was ordering online.

I went inexpensive on the crib bc they al have to meet the same safety requirements. We used the money on furniture that she will have for a lot longer. I think ours was from Target and was about $100. We are about to transition her out of it so this LO can use it and it has held up great! No issues at all

also my mother bought a floor model at BRU for about the same price and it great.

    Good luck!
  • I researched a bunch and then ordered it on Amazon
  • I have a Belini crib that was a hand me down (I'm sure it was ridiculously expensive) and I have to say that it has held up incredibly well. This crib was used for 1 baby before and has made it through 2 moves with us (so taken apart and put back together at least 3 times) and is still incredibly solid. I did get new hardware when it was passed down to us which makes a big difference. I would never have bought it for myself but if you plan on using the crib for multiple kids it may be worth spending a bit more.

  • We at expecting twin boys and found BRU to be way too expensive, especially when you multiply by 2.  Much of what can be found at BRU can be found elsewhere, in store or online, for much cheaper.  We found beautiful, sturdy cribs online at Target.  The cribs we chose got excellent reviews on multiple websites.  Plus Target had a promo a month ago....buy $500 worth of nursery furniture, get a $100 giftcard.  We bought 2 cribs ($199 each) and 2 highly rated mattresses ($99 each) to reach the total. We are completely happy with both.
  • We went to Babies R Us, picked out one we liked, then ordered it off amazon. The crib we liked was almost $300 at BRU and we ordered it (shipped) for $175.00. Same crib, same changing table. I will say if you do that, make sure the seller is Amazon, not a third part seller. We had minor issues with both the crib and changing table (a small ding in the changing table, and one of the bolts was missing from the crib) The changing table was amazon, and they were GREAT about it. They refunded half the purchase price if we kept it, (which we did) or offered to replace it. The third party seller (Diapers.com) just sent us new hardware (which hasn't yet arrived) and a letter that they were sorry. So we have a half finished crib, and are waiting on the hardware.

  • Thanks for all the tips everyone!
  • Going to babyrus... fell in love with the one crib/changing table they only have. I like also they seem more sturdy then the others. I will be using the bed bath coupon on it.
  • We bought DD's 4-in-1 convertible crib from BBB and were able to use 20% off coupons for the crib and all accessories.  They carry a range of brands and levels of quality.  The Baby Bargains book was really helpful for researching the reliability of the brands.  This time around, we ordered the crib from Amazon since I couldn't find the particular model in stores.

  • My first crib (11 years ago) was about 600 at Burlington. Real wood and convertable, it held up for 7 years and two kids. It's out of date and not sturdy enough for it to be a crib for this baby, but it was worth what we spent. If we'd had kids closer together we never would have needed to replace it. This time we just bought a set off of wayfair. Reviews were good, and we don't expect or need it to last for too long. This is our last, so this convertable crib should last until this guy gets a big boy bed, I'm guessing g around 4yrs old. Once it's a daybed the condition isn't quite so big a deal, and actually hold up pretty well.
We haven't put together the wayfair crib yet, but hopefully will be able to this weekend.
  • I'll probably go with IKEA. I have a friend who got one from there and she loves it!

  • We got one of the more modern styles from Babyletto. I bought it online from Target (used my red card for 5% off!) and it has held up great. I also think it looks super cute and the quality is good. We shopped at one of the specialty baby boutiques here in Dallas to check out some of the nicer ones and I honestly couldn't justify spending hundreds more on cribs that felt almost the same. DD will move out of it soon to her big girl bed and we will get it ready for baby boy!
