Dockatot

Hi! First time poster. I did a search for this with no results so hoping that means I'm following the rules.

Does anyone have a dockatot or experience with one? I can't decide if it's worth the money, but the reviews are raving! Just thought I'd check here so we can [hopefully] discuss the pros and cons!

Re: Dockatot

  • Wow! Too expensive for my taste but to each his own.

  • I don't see all the rave about it to be honest.

    What makes it so special?
    Thank God for Raid.

  • I had never heard of it until now. Just looked it up. I don't get the hype, either. There are so many other products for sleeping or lounging that are way less expensive.

There are tons of positive reviews for this on Amazon, but then a more recent one suspects many of those reviews are fake...

  • I agree with pp's. I googled it to see what it was, and then was really depressed with what I saw for the price. There are plenty of other products out there that will do the same thing for a fraction of the price. Make sure to check out all your options before you purchase. I'd hate to spend that much on something I ended up hating.

  • I was excited when I first saw the product on Pinterest but I think it's really a "trendy Californian blogger mom thing".
when I looked at the price I really thought it was overrated.
your call if you have that kind of money but I won't!

  • They look multi-functional and chic. If we were co-sleeping or purchasing an infant or toddler floor bed I would consider this one. For the price, I would expect 100% organic cotton and more information about where the materials were sourced though. As a gift, I'll take it! Based on the fact that we already have a crib and bassinet, I won't be going out of my way to purchase one of these.
  • In my experience, if you spend a ton of money on a thing-for-the-baby-to-sit-in, the baby will hate that thing.
Yup! My friend spent a lot on a fancy, extremely highly rated baby chair/swing, which her daughter hated with a passion
  • Since we are doing a Montessori nursery I wanted something for the baby to sleep in when he transitions from the cosleeper that would make him feel comfortable on the big mattress. The dock a tot is insanely expensive for what it is, so I'm planning on making one. Plus, that way I can source materials that I trust my baby to sleep on.

  • It looks like a Swedish baby sleep nest? Is that all it is?
  • Thanks for all the feedback! So the reason I'm even considering it is because even though I was one of those "I will never cosleep" people before I became a mom, I totally had to eat my words...twice! Lol. So with this being my 3rd, I'm being more realistic and just planning on it. This is a safe alternative to just having baby on the bed. And my kids just would not sleep in the bassinet (trust me I tried!). For my mothering style, this seems like a good idea, however, who's to say my baby will think it's any different than the $200 bassinet I had that they wouldn't sleep a wink in! It definitely looks cozy and it has passed rigorous safety tests, but I'm still a bit skeptical as far as the hype goes, as most of you mentioned. I do have a close friend that has one and she thinks it's worth the money- if that helps? (I think when you are in that "desperate for sleep, anyway you can get" season of life, $150 is worth it!
  • @carolynpetite  how old is your friends baby?

Do you think you could borrow hers for a day or two. That way you know if it's a waste or not.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • @PugsandKisses her baby is 3 months old. So technically he can still be in the dock when my baby is born. She won't know until it gets close and the silly things sell out quickly, so I feel pressured to buy it when it becomes available again! (I also kind of want one from the get go, if i choose this route) so baby doesn't get used to me holding her all night.
  • I've never heard of this either but I really like this! Wish it wasn't so expensive! Would probably help a lot with transitioning to a crib and then the bigger one with transitioning to a bed! I like that it's so portable too! I'm going to look on etsy and see if I can find anything similar for cheaper!
  • @elenabrent - I hadn't heard of this but went to Montessori school and am a big believer in the methods. Have you known anyone thats done the floor bed? It makes sense to me but that's the only part I get nervous about.
  • @mnkenned Yeah, I have a few friends who have done a Montessori nursery and loved it. I teach Montessori preschool so my hope is that this kid will be completely surrounded by the idea of "freedom within a framework." From what I've heard/read the floor bed also alleviates a lot of the sleep time angst, assuming as a parent you're cool with giving them independence in how they spend their time in their room (with some ground rules of course).

  • Making one seems like a less inexpensive option and you can pick your own fabrics you find most beneficial for your baby and your lifestyle.
  • I think you should be really careful if you decide to make one yourself because it could be a suffocation hazard. The materials they use are completely safe and breathable. (Not trying to advertise for this company by any means, but they have done the testing for safety while homemade options obviously wouldn't be.)
