So i am very bad about it. But i use my heart monitor like once a week. But this last week i have used it everyday. I feel bad about it. I did some research online and supposedly the monitor sends waves into the womb that sounds like a helicopter flying over and I'm concerned i will effect my babies hearing. I have also heard it can burn your baby if it is on them to long. I'm not sure how true this is. But has anyone had a successful pregnancy and healthy baby when using a heart doppler all the time like me? I mean i used it with my first son. But i don't think i used it as much as this baby. My son has good hearing but he also is going in for tubes because his ears are bad. I hope i don't make this one worse. I just need some comfort that baby will be alright
Re: Heart monitors dangerous?
I agree with others that maybe cutting down on how often.. partially for the baby and also for yourself? Seems like instead of addressing your worries and why you're so nervous about this pregnancy you're just calming those nerves a couple times a day with a doppler. Take a deep breath, things are going fine... try to find some confidence and see if you can go a day or two without it.
My doctor told me they were safe and didn't give me any sort of limitation on how frequently I can use it. I do limit my use to once a week, because if I didn't give myself a limit, I can see how it can turn into an everyday thing. I also read on the internet (not from a doctor) that it may be a little loud for the baby. However, I live in a big city and everyday I am near trains whooshing by me, loud sirens, trucks, etc... so the baby is being exposed to loud city noises on a daily basis.
Given the fact that doctors restrict us from eating deli meats, unpasteurized dairy, and anything that poses even a small risk to our babies, I doubt so many of them would be giving us the green light on dopplers if there was any real risk. There are a lot of scary things on the internet, and I too was concerned, however I trust my OB and ultimately I listen to whatever she tells me is safe or not safe.
She didn't say anything about frequency of use, but my questions were more about if it was worth it, as in, do they work. I just got mine in the mail yesterday (it works), and I'm planning on using it once a week-ish, FWIW.
