feelings on feeling baby move?

How do you all honestly feel about it?

On the inside it feels really cool. My LO likes to curl up on one side and if I look down my abdomen is a little lopsided. I can feel it's really hard there like a fist sized lump inside (17wks) then it kind of just moves.... I don't even know how to describe it. That fascinates me, I usually just lay in bed watching a movie with my hand on my stomach waiting to feel that.

Well tonight I felt what I'm assuming were kicks. On the inside it felt cool, but I actually felt it on the outside. It was like someone was poking their finger through my skin. That really kind of freaks me out. Like a lot. Maybe it's just because my ex has been stressing me out so my emotions are frayed and I have no one to share this with.
I'm so happy my baby is moving about and growing but holy crap feeling it through my skin reminds me of a SciFi movie!

Someone please tell me I'm not the only one a little weirded out. Fascinated but weirded out.

Re: feelings on feeling baby move?

  • Don't feel bad. Pregnant bellies totally freak me out, I cannot stand to feel another woman's belly and the baby move. All I can think of is Alien when I'm forced to do it. My first pregnancy I was really worried I would be just as freaked out feeling my own baby move and I was, a little. But you get used to it and it stops being so freaky after a while.

  • I loved it and took oodles of videos trying to catch DS move. I got some that made me look like the caddyshack gopher. More than I could keep DH's attention to watch.

    Enjoy the wonders of pregnancy

  • It becomes a love/hate relationship.  The cute little kicks are always fascinating and fun but as you get further along it can get really uncomfortable.  Like baby is trying to roll over and is using your ribs to kick off from :/

I also find the videos online where you can actually see a little hand or foot poking out super creepy (if they're even real).  I have a bit of padding in the middle so I could see bumps and rolls on the outside but never actual body parts!
  • Hi - I'm just now starting to feel the flutters and the baby move. I can feel when he/she has moved positions as I feel pressure in different spots. Right now it's cool and neat. I'll see how I feel when I see a hand pushing my tummy out! LOL

@StrappinArrow  - I'm so sorry that your ex is stressing you out. :( Hopefully things will settle down so you have one less thing to focus on. :) I'm about the same weeks wise - I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow. Congratulations!!
  • I was obsessed the whole time, it was never painful for me, maybe a bit uncomfortable at most. I could tell when it was a hand/foot or elbow moving past and thought that was just amazing. Luckily, I don't watch much SciFi, so I wasn't worried about the baby busting through. You might get used to it!

This is me, exactly!  I loved feeling baby move.  @StrappinArrow I hope you grow more accustomed/comfortable with it so you can just enjoy it for the amazingness that it is!  But, that being said, don't feel too bad if you don't grow to love it.  You can't force your feelings to change.  For everything you're not 100% a fan of, there will be other things that you LOVE that another woman can't stand.  It all balances out.

  • @JennM205 - fantastic point. I tried to convince myself I loved breastfeeding and I simply did not like the feeling of it (not so much physically, I got used to that.. more mentally/emotionally or how it made me feel about my body). Accepting that I didn't like it and that was ok to say out loud made me feel empowered instead of ashamed.

  • I like feeling it inside because it isnt uncomfortable yet but feeling my skin move under my hand  :# hahaha
  • For the most part I enjoyed feeling the baby move. It was annoying when he would have the hiccups or a dance party in the middle of the night while I was trying to fall asleep after getting up to go pee.

  • No movement to formulate a feeling over here yet :(:(

  • Feeling movement is my favorite part of pregnancy by far.  My son was so active my stomach looked like a scene out of alien by the end.  The only time I was unhappy with it is when my DH was playing him a song he didn't like so he decided to kick straight out in line with my belly button.  I swear he tore something that night.  I couldn't walk for a day and a half after that!

  • I just love feeling the movement! I've been feeling it for two weeks!  I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy so I didn't feel movement until after 20 weeks.

  • No movements here yet, but I am patiently waiting. Jealous!
  • I am 15 weeks today and i felt poking and flutters for the FIRST time.
I started to cry- it was so exciting.. At first I was wondering what the heck it was, then it continued- almost intensified. Then I could feel him rolling in there and getting comfy.

He stopped for a few hours, but when I pushed my hands into my belly I felt the same movements not too long after. Must of been nap time. lol

It is so cool- I cannot wait until babe is bigger and moving around more- regardless of the discomfort, I just want to feel it.

  • I haven't felt anything yet at 15w5d. With my first I didn't feel anything until like 22 weeks. Especially early on, it's very reassuring to feel baby kicks. Last time I never really got tired of it. I didn't like being big and uncomfortable, but baby kicks were always cool.

  • No movement for me either. I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow and nothing. This is my third pregnancy so I thought I would feel baby sooner
  • Other people's pregnant bellies moving freaks me out. I am so close with my sister, but when the baby started moving I had to look the other way, lol. We had a laugh about it. I like feeling the kicks, I just don't like seeing it. :)

  • I definitely love feeling babies move and roll around in there. The only weird baby movement is when my son would have hiccups for HOURS at a time and my belly would twitch like crazy and it was kind of torturous.

  • Ditto on loving baby kicks - except kicks in the ribs. DS came out a big size 2 foot wise and he would wedge his feet up under my ribs during the last few weeks. I'm convinced he bruised a rib because after I had him they were extremely sore if someone brushed against them our I sneezed/coughed. Hoping this little lady has petite feet....
