Low Progesterone?

I am sure some others have lower progesterone, anyone on progesterone suppositories? Any info to share? I had BW done yesterday and it shows my progesterone is low, not much just maybe one point shy of being the low end of the window but they put me on progesterone suppositories. Should I be worried that it is low? They also did an HCG and it essay 18222 at 6 weeks? Does that sound normal to y'all, they said it was fine and are repeating it tomorrow. It kinda has me worried and I don't have an ultrasound for another two weeks.

Re: Low Progesterone?

  • I had to use them with my first pregnancy - they were...interesting  :#
I didn't have any other issues throughout the pregnancy, so they must have done the job! I would just say go straight to the bathroom in the morning when you get up...don't wait!

I'm using suppositories since November (am pregnant through IVF.
For you it means your ovaries aren't producing as much as they should, and in a few weeks your placenta takes over.
But don't worry, when taking them you will be fine!

TMI following: suppositories are messy, everything that goes in comes out, think bedsheets, underwear, ...

  • I'm in the same boat. At 4w5d my hcg was 2100, but my progesterone is "low" (no number supplied). I started progesterone pills today and I'm a little nervous about it, but glad that it might be something that can help me.
  • Didn't say a number just said normal was 11.2 to (whatever the range goes to, I can't remember) and mine was about a point low. So maybe around 10.2. Going to look on my app that should show the number.
  • Mine was almost 60 and my doctor has had me on them for weeks because it's part of my IUI protocol.

  • Your hcg looks great.  I'm so glad my midwife drew progesterone yesterday.  At 5w1d (yesterday) my progesterone was 7 (hcg 2342, I think a little low but it's totally in the normal range so I'll see how much it has increased tomorrow), so she's putting me on 200mg daily and rechecking my levels on Monday.  They want to make sure my level goes above 10 and then I'll be on supplements through 1st tri.

@ccrane22 did you wean off of them during 2nd tri?

  • 200mg is what they put me on as well, just picked up my prescription so I can start tonight. Seeing all the success stories of women on progesterone helps because after seeing 'pregnancy with threatened abortion' in my chart (the hospital has a health app where you can view some things on your chart) has kinda freaked me out after I finally got my anxiety to calm down. I am currently off my anxiety meds so I'm kinda freaking out. I would love to have an ultrasound to reassure my mind. I mean that has got to be better than having anxiety for the next 2 weeks.
  • @mrsasolomon OMG your chart online is a horrible place to find that diagnosis.  They handled that terribly.  Did the doc mention any worries to you other than low progesterone?  I am not your doc but seriously, there are a lot of success stories of women taking progesterone supplements early on with levels lower than yours.  Is your doc planning to recheck your progesterone?

  • I'm 5w. my progesterone is a 7.5 and my HCG is 2400. The dr prescribed me the pills and I'm going to start taking them tomorrow. I had an ectopic pregnancy 5 years ago so I had an ultrasound today and we saw the sac. no yoke or baby but the sac was a great thing to see. I'll have to repeat us in a week or 2
  • With my last pregnancy my progesterone was a measly 8 at 8 weeks. It was scary but the suppositories did the trick!

  • @mrsasolomon: the reason it says 'pregnancy with threatened abortion' on your chart is because of the progesterone drop.
You need progesterone to keep a thick lining to keep the baby in place.
But now that you take the supplements you will be fine as you are adding the progesterone and your lining stays as it should.

Do talk to your doctor and tell them about your anxiety and let them explain to you that you are out of that 'threatened abortion' sone. He will be able to assure you that you are doing great now with the supplements and maybe even show you your little wonder.

  • I'm on Crinone because I had LPD, but my numbers were 23 and 32 for progesterone at 12 and 14dpo respectively. My doctor is keeping me on them though just in case. It's messy and gross!

  • I was pretty certain that my levels were low or just out of whack with my PCOS so when I found out I was pregnant, I asked my doctor for progesterone and have been taking them for 3 1/2 weeks now and am prescribed them through 6 months.
  • When I spoke to the nurse today they did not mention rechecking the progesterone, should I call Monday and ask them to? I do go back in two weeks for an ultrasound and BW but maybe I should have the progesterone rechecked sooner than that. They did recheck my HCG and it was up to 26,943 and she said the rise was prefect and she said Congrats so I am trying to let that ease my mind.
  • They probably gave you the dose you need @mrsasolomon, they don't check my level.
But ask them, better ask one time to many to ease your worrying. Sometimes doctors forget that it is all new to us, and not something we work with every single day, so we need more information.
Way to go on the high numbers. Awesome!

Sorry, I just saw this! Yes, I only used them for 1 month :)

  • I had to that the pills with DD2 for about a month. Everything turned out just fine :)
  • I am on 200mg of progesterone (I am 6w2d today) suppositories...I have PCOS and my progesterone was always super low. I think my level at 4w was 11. Lol...

Anyway my only suggestion is to make sure the capsules are white. I got dark red capsules the first time and in the morning, a red discharge was on my underwear and I thought it was blood and I freaked out because I thought I was miscarrying. It was just vaginal discharge of the pill capsule lol...

Whoever thought of making a vaginal capsule red has clearly never been pregnant. Ridiculous.
