Not hungry

Anyone else experiencing a loss of appetite?  The first tri was very carb loaded for me and I had to eat due to nausea, but the past month I just don't feel hungry anymore.  I have no cravings and nothing seems appealing.  I do force myself to eat 3 normal meals but I don't always enjoy it.  The only time I'll feel hunger is if I put off lunch till like 3pm.  But then my desire for dinner is pretty much gone.  I loved food so much in my first pregnancy I feel like I'm getting jipped!  I want to enjoy eating  :(

And if anyone is wondering if this is keeping me from gaining weight, well it's not.  I've been gaining steadily which sort of baffles me. My OB said its mostly water weight.  But I don't know about that haha.

Re: Not hungry

  • I almost wish I could say that same.. grass is always greener right? I feel like I could eat from the moment I open my eyes until I go to sleep... and again in the middle of the night.  But that's definitely tough, I had a huge loss of appetite after having my son and it was damn hard to fit in 2000 calories a day when nothing was appealing.  Keep doing as you're doing and I bet your appetite will come back!!  Lots of calorie-dense, bland foods definitely helped me so I didn't have any aversions.

Things start shifting/cramping pretty early on, so perhaps your uterus is starting to squish your upper intestines/stomach so that emptying is slowed down. Keep drinking lots of water to keep things moving and snack snack snacking awway!!

  • I've felt the same way for a couple of weeks. I feel like nothing appeals me and I'd prefer to not eat anything. In my  mind, I wish I wanted to eat the burgers and fries everywhere but IRL I just don't want anything. I do get hungry if I eat later than usual so I think it's an aversion thing for me. We went out to a restaurant with my family yesterday and I didn't order anything because I didn't want anything on the entire menu (DH took me somewhere else to eat and I felt the same way but I made myself eat a sandwich). Apparently I now have an aversion to almost everything! I've actually lost 3lbs this week as a result but it's not from not eating, it's because I eat bland and simple foods because I don't want "regular" food. I had some hummus and pita chips for dinner last night and that was it!

  • I've been this way but I know I need to eat so I made snack cups with raisins, cranberries, nuts and small cheese cubes put then in the takeout dip containers so they are small but just enough to help eat and get good calories I even made my kids some and they loved it...also I try and eat protein throughout the day even a spoon full of peanut butter is good
  • I eat out of necessity not want nowadays. Mostly due to nausea though :/ I might be one of those unlucky few who are sick throughout pregnancy because I'm 18 weeks today and it's been reletentless. Hang in there!
  • I never thought of it as having an aversion, since nothing makes me sick.  It's just not appealing.  But I guess that would make sense!  Must be more of an aversion pregnancy for me instead of cravings.  But I'm waiting for the day to come when I just have to have something. Trying to decide what to eat now is mentally exhausting  :/
  • Yes, I feel this way too. Most food hasn't interested me for about the past week. The only thing I want to eat is fruit, popsicles, sherbet and jello. Everything else I basically have to force down.
  • Yep, just not hungry. My Mom keeps checking in every 5 hours to see what we ate today. I lost a lot of weight in college so she's trying not to have a repeat, especially while I'm pregnant. Again back then I just wasn't hungry, just stupid busy. I'm going to ask the doc can I have ensure or something that I can drink to keep up our calorie intake. I've been trying to eat healthier too so more salads and fruit. Almost a gallon of water a day. My BMI let us know we had to make some lifestyle changes before we were expecting. Now to find the perfect balance...
  • It's just one of those things that make pregnancy unique for every person, every time. It's common for some women to completely lose appetite, you just have to remind yourself you are eating for your baby, not so much for you. Get creative with meals, if you have the time and energy try different recipes, "tasty" has a lot of short, simple and nutritious meals on video you can try.

@mom2adoodle I'm also still nauseous. Thankfully not all the time anymore, having fruit and veggie slices has helped, I keep them on the fridge in zip locks and nibble in between meals, I cut them in thin sticks, carrot, cucumber, Apple... Anything that's crunchy and eat it slowly.

  • I've been finding that I think I'm starving only to have the appetite of a bird.

  • I'm with @SuperFudge00 - I feel like I'm STARVING when I sit down for meals and then I'll eat like three bites and be all I'm done! Seriously. I'm like a three year old.
  • Oh man, I wish I had this problem. I'm always hungry, but like a pp, I don't eat a lot at once.

Maybe try eating very small meals/snacks all day long?
