Changes in movement!

First, let me just say THANK GOD for my fetal monitor.  Otherwise I would have been in the ER all weekend.  I am almost 2 weeks and have been feeling very consistent movement for a few weeks.  Mostly low near my pelvis, but still there none the less.  But the last two days, it is has been minimal at best.  It used to be almost every hour I would feel something.  But the last few days, not much of anything.  But, I also woke up feeling bigger.  So maybe it is a growth spurt and she is just a little slow this morning?  PS.  I heard her heart beat this morning so I know all is ok.  Anyone else see these changes?

Re: Changes in movement!

  • At almost 20 weeks I haven't felt a thing and there are two in there, but I have an anterior placenta. When is your next doc appt?

  • I was also only feeling movement just near my pelvis until this weekend. I'm 22 weeks today (also with an anterior placenta) and I'm starting to feel movement higher up.

  • I had the same thing happen. For days I will not feel much, but then sometimes I'll feel him all day. Sometimes the only reason I know hrs moving is bc I recognize the feeling of him bouncing on my bladder and the immediate need to pee. Anyway, I think the days I don't feel much are when he's turned facing my back. Like last night I felt a big movement, then was able to feel a lot again for a while. Try not to worry too much, they are still pretty small!
  • I had a few days last week when baby boy was hardly moving at all, and I got a bit worried, but the past three days, he's been WILD. I think I've finally started feeling KICKS, not just little movements. I even caught my stomach moving on video :-) Today, this kid is a bit quieter, but I think we're all just tired from the weekend;-)

  • Yup, totally normal.  This happened to me all throughout my pregnancy with DD and it's already started to happen with this one.  Some days she would move a TON and hiccups, omg the hiccups are so flippin' annoying, but then I'd go like 2 or 3 days with very minimal movement.  I had my first bout of minimal movement with this one a couple days ago, but then out of nowhere he'd give me a little kick so I knew it was fine.  I also have a doppler, and my placenta is anterior this time so that doesn't help with the lack of feeling movement, but being able to listen this time helps on those days where baby is sleeping a lot of being lazy.

At this stage, baby sleeps for about 14 hrs a day. Your movements, talking and stomach digesting food often puts them to sleep, that's why later on when you finally fall asleep they will wake you up with all of the movements.

    Edit: typos
  • I'm 22 (almost 23) weeks and wasn't feeling anything until a week or two ago - anterior placenta. I'll go an entire day feeling her and then nothing for 2 days. It definitely freaks me out when I go long stretches without feelings anything.
  • Do you have an anterior placenta?
I have anterior placenta this time (didn't the first time) and I've noticed this happens more now than with my first pregnancy. I feel him non-stop some days, and then barely feel him at all on others. There's no reason to be concerned until you're in your 3rd trimester, and it's normal even then. With my first pregnancy, my doctor had me drink ice water and eat something sugary (a piece of fruit, a piece of candy, etc.) and lay on my left side if I was concerned about lack of movement. That usually woke her up.

  • No need to worry until you're a little further along. Typically ob's don't worry about "counting" movement until 3rd trimester.
  • I been feeling her more now like crazy
  • I feel my baby in the morning, mid-day, then in the evening. Coincidentally whenever I'm hungry I feel those kicks stronger than ever and also about fifteen mins after I eat!
  • My baby seems to be on the same schedule lol
  • Hi,
Please be wary of using your home doppler to check your baby is OK. I've had it instilled in to me by my auntie (a midwife) if you saw someone had collapsed but they still had a pulse would you just leave them or help regardless? Same with baby, a heartbeat alone doesn't mean all is OK, if in doubt get him/her checked!! With my 1st baby I was in and out of hospital being checked for reduced movement, every check was perfect and i felt daft for going in but the midwives & Dr's said they would rather be cautious then have it too late.
Sorry to scare but my friend lost her baby at 31 weeks because she didn't have reduced movements professionally checked for a couple of days as she was using a home doppler and thought all was OK.
At this stage tho it is quite normal to not feel a "routine" with baby's movements.
But please, if in doubt - get him/her checked by a professional!!
