Infertility

Introduction - Howdy!

Howdy!  This is my first post on this board, but I've been lurking for awhile.  I'm doing my first IUI this month and really need to be talk with other women who are going through the roller-coaster that is infertility.

I'm 30 and my husband and I have been TTC for almost 3 years.  We were NTNP for 5 years before TTC, pretty much since we got married right out of college.  I had a couple of bumps in the road...  right when we first starting TTC, I got a blood clot & bi-lateral pulmonary embolism which required me to go on blood thinners for 3 months & get a depo shot.  My period didn't come back for 6 months after my 1 and only shot!  Then after that, my period never got quite regular and I wasn't detecting ovulation through at home tests or charting, so I started seeing an OB/GYN instead of my regular PCP.  Upon vising with an OB/GYN, I was diagnosed with PCOS and encouraged to lose weight.  Ultimately, I made the tough decision to have gastric bypass surgery with the hope that getting my weight under control would take care of our infertility issues.  As hoped, just a few months after surgery my cycle became regular & I was ovulating every month.  However, once we started TTC again after surgery, I still wasn't getting pregnant!   I had a ruptured appendix at 14, so I was concerned there were some old adhesions that were maybe obstructing my tubes.  I had an HSG, which opened up one of my tubes, but the other one was perfectly clear.  I was hoping getting the 2nd tube opened up would be the jump start we needed, but no such luck there either.  That brings us to present day - we're doing IUI with letrozole this cycle with my OB/GYN while waiting to get into the RE at the end of the month.

From my recent lurking, it sounds like lots of people advise against doing medicated, un-monitored IUIs with OB/GYNs... so I immediately called to get into the RE ASAP!  Thanks for all I've learned on the board just through lurking already.  Looking forward to joining the April IUI thread.

@Monica54321Welcome! I hope your stay is short.  I can understand your frustration for sure--it sounds like you've made so many changes and taken so many steps and I'm sorry that it still hasn't worked out for you.  Hopefully iui is just what you need!! Much luck for a BFP for you this cycle!!

It sounds like we have somewhat similar stories-I also have PCOS and am doing my first iui cycle this month. Do you know about when your iui will be? I'm thinking mine will be the mid/end of this week. I'm getting anxious!!
  • Welcome @Monica54321:) Sorry that you are here but glad to know & welcome you. I am going to start my first IUI in April as well! I have been on letrozole for about 4 cycles, which was certainly helped move my ovulation date up a little bit. My IUI will probably be in about 2 weeks. Glad you are also seeking out help from an RE! I did about 2 months ago and helped me to feel like I was on the correct path.

  • WOW! Thank you all for such a kind welcome.  It's amazing to hear from people who 'get it'.  All of my friends have been able to get pregnant within 4 months of starting TTC, so I'm really tired of hearing "maybe you just need to worry less" or "it'll happen when it's time" - and I think they're sick of hearing me talk about doctor appointments, tests & what day in my cycle it is!

  • @srh18 - My IUI should be towards the end of this week as well.  I'm really hoping I detect my LH surge any day but Saturday, because I won't be able to do IUI this cycle if that's the detection day, since my OBs office isn't open on the weekend.   :(
