TW! TTCAL - Bad BBT Thermometer?

This is my first cycle charting. I lost my baby at 24 weeks back on Jan 5th. We are somewhat trying, but I'm mostly charting just to see what's happening with my cycle. I know I have longer cycles, but I'm so confused what my chart is doing. I thought I finally O'd on CD 30 as I jumped up a whole degree (tested at the same time, before I got out of bed, didn't take any meds or drink, and am not sick) but then the next day it dropped down again. I'm not sure if it's my hormones are out of wack, or if my CVS brand BBT thermometer isn't the best. Does anyone have any thoughts or brand suggestions? Thanks!
<3 My Sweet Baby Gabriella was born still on January 5th, 2016. Forever in my heart. <3

Re: TW! TTCAL - Bad BBT Thermometer?

  • Most women here suggest the Mabis on Amazon which is a cheap but reliable option. I know I personally had issues with my CVS one before.

I second what @NamelessAria said. You could have had the start of a cold but you never really felt it or a restless nights sleep. I wouldn't quite jump the gun on hormones based on one wacky temp. As many told me before, it's the Forrest you're looking at, not a single tree.
This is perfect question for WTO! Join us there daily. :)

  • I'm so sorry! I completely forgot to include a TW in my title. I wasn't focused on that. I just mentioned it to see if that was a cause of my hormones possibly being off.

  • So sorry for your loss. I'm just jumping in today to add that my CVS bbt also was horrible and I'm much happier with the Mabis. Hope to see you on the WTO/TWW boards.

Well to be fair when I suggested posting in WTO/TWW I don't think either had been started yet this morning. I just started WTO for the day and someone also started TWW Monday. So where ever you'd feel more comfortable posting. Or both, sometimes I do both. I'm a rebel like that.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. It can take several months for your cycles to regulate following a loss, so it may not be a bad thermometer. I would recommend if you are planning on getting a new thermometer that you wait until your next cycle to start using it.

Also a lingo tip to keep you from getting confused:
Boards are the general "rooms" for different subjects like "Trying to Get Pregnant" "First Trimester," etc. Threads are the topics that are listed inside the board. Every day someone stated a wto (waiting to ovulate) and tww (two week wait) thread for us to discuss, rant, ask questions. It's how we keep the board uncluttered and make sure we can keep track of how everyone in our community is doing! It's certainly not necessary to post every day, but I find the Mir I post and get involved in daily threads the more I get out of the community.

So sorry about your loss. As for your chart, I wouldn't worry about one temperature. See what happens over the next few days.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

    ****TW loss mentioned****

I had an anovulatory cycle after my loss. It was 60 days of rocky mountain temps. My doc said that's fairly typical after a loss.

I'd also recommend a Mabis either way.

I hope you'll stick around. Lots of support here.

  • *TW losses mentioned*

I'm very sorry for your loss. I have had a few losses and I have yet to have a cycle go back to "normal" in between them. I know it's frustrating not really knowing what's going on. I probably would get another thermometer if the cvs one has bad reviews, you already have enough uncertain variables but switching thermometers coukd throw off your chart too.

    Good luck!
