I thought about going shorter right before baby, but then I realized how low maintenance a pony tail is. So I decided to keep it longer for at least a little while.

I just went a little shorter (it had been awhile since my last haircut) but my one requirement was that it be long enough to put in a ponytail.
I'm with the PP's here...I need to be able to put it up into a ponytail. I do plan on having it done again before baby (colour, & trim)...I'll probably lose an inch or 2, but nothing drastic. Having him arrive will be a big enough life change, so I'd like to keep my hair somewhat similar (for now).
I've been very blessed with long, thick pregnancy hair, but it's definitely within reach of little fingers so I'm going to be cutting mine soon, with the one requirement that I can still put it in a pony tail.
I've just basically had my hair in a ponytail or bun since my kid was born 2 years ago. I hate styling short hair! No short styles seem to be low maintenance on me.
That said, I definitely support getting a haircut shortly before baby comes. I'm very pleased that I did and have killer bangs in all my hospital pictures from when DD was born.
I did this with my first kid. I took about 12 inches off.... I definitely DONT advocate for making a drastic hair change right before a big life change! I hated it!!! It's grown back out now and I won't be doing anything but a trim for the foreseeable future
I cut about 10 inches off after I got married last May. I freaking loved it! It's grown out a bit but I plan on cutting it that short again right before June.
It was still juuuust long enough to put in a tiny pony tail and curly hair is easy to style, aka throw some mousse on it. I actually have a haircut today before my Grad pics and baby shower this month and then I'll probably schedule one for right before I go into labor because who knows when I'll get back after that, lol.
I agree with @Nlewis1! I cut mine all off about two month before DS was born and also hated it! Plus at delivery time, I wanted braids or a messy bun and neither would work. Last time I went to get my haircut, I asked her to cut off two or three inches and she refused! She said "no big changes until after the babies are here!!"
I just took 8 inches off, but it's still pretty long. I agree with PP, when I had my haircut, I told the stylist that I wanted to take a lot of length off but still be long enough to put up. Mission accomplished. Short hairstyles seem to need constant maintenance, trims, styling and what not.
My hair almost to my waist. Ponytail will get it out of the way. I can't cut my hair too much bc DS1 would have a fit. It's his lovey...when he's tired he sits with it in his hands, been like that since he was born. DS2 still cuddles in my chest lol
I've always had long hair so I'm probably biased, but short hair seems to be more work on a daily basis to look presentable. You can't hide a bad hair day like you can with messy buns and pony tails!
I've always had super long hair, as you might be able to see in my profile picture... Lol. That was almost a year and a half ago. I wasn't allowed to cut my hair before the wedding (4 inches max), so after we got home from our honeymoon in September, I cut about 11 inches off. My hair, even without taking a prenatal, grows STUPID fast, so by the beginning of this month, it was already back down to my lower back. Cut off another 5 inches because I can't stand my hair short or touching my neck in the summer.
Im with pp's saying don't go drastic before such a life changing event unless it's something you've had before and liked it. I'll be getting my roots done and another trim in May though lol.
My hair is higher maintenance when it is short. When it is longer it has more weight to it and I don't have to straighten it as much or do much with it other than blow it dry. I like having it long enough for a side braid. Plus, with my chubby face right now (even chubbier as pregnancy continues) a short hair cut just makes my moon face look even rounder. I think I'm going to go for a trim to just clean it up, but only because I haven't had it cut in over a year (or even trimmed) it is looking a little skanky on the ends, and where I get it cut does a scalp massage and shoulder/neck massage sooooo bam.
I cut off 18 inches on October and now I want my long hair back. My 18 month old was always tearing at it and I always wore it up so I figured I'd wear it down more if it was short. I didn't and am growing it back up but that's just me and I've never had short hair so it was kind of a shock.
Mine is short now, just about shoulder length. I'm actually going to grow it out for the pony tail reason. I constantly have to dig out my straightener on a daily basis to look presentable so with longer hair I wouldn't have to do that necessarily.
I got 4 inches taken off about a month ago just to clean it up & get off the dead ends... And it makes me sad not having the extra length! So my vote is no, longer hair you have more options with (pulling it up or back) with out having to "do" it all the time.
I just chopped mine on Friday! for the past couple years I've kept my hair just above shoulder length and this time my stylist went a little shorter... hopefully the hormones will stick around and grow a little faster to the length I like. It doesnt bother me that I can't get it ALL in a ponytail, just as long as I can get it off of my face. I also anticipate a super sweaty summer, between having this baby in June and then shlepping baby+gear around, so staying away from cutting bangs again!
I'm still in the process of growing out the pixie cut I had a couple of years back, so no drastic haircutting at this time is happening here. I want to get it past my shoulder blades and then keep it there for at least a few years I would think. I like it long, and I like it really short, but I need a fast-forward button for all the middling lengths in between.
I had a pixie for the last two years and LOVED it. It took like 5 mins to do and I actually looked presentable. H hated it, though, so it's about at my chin now. It won't get much longer, but I say, go drastic
I'm in the middle ground right now of shoulder length. I haven't cut my hair in 7 months ... Not on purpose, just happened
i love short hair on other people and I also think that my round preggo face won't look the same as the pics I like , which are in shape faces !
im also growing out an undercut which is all scraggly on my neck.
Probably just need a trim and some highlights and a deep breath.
Also hugely agree on the bangs. Super cute but as a greasy warm person with wavy hair ... They look cute for a couple of hours and that's it. Thinking of investing in a clip on pair.
I'm pretty sure my hair never left a top knot for a good year after DD was born.
I agree with PP - don't do anything too drastic until after the baby comes! With that being said, I currently have bangs and can't decide if I should start growing them out now or if I should wait until after DD2 is here. I'm not sure what is lower maintenance!
I have cut my hair short multiple times and every time I like it for about a week and the regret the decision and grow it back out. Finally at 30 I've learned my lesson and my hair dresser has promised me never to cut off. So just a trim and some layers here before the baby is here!
I seriously need a cut. I called to confirm my usual cut and colour in December and found out my hair stylist had quit, so I cancelled and I just haven't been able to trust anyone else since. I really, really loved that guy. He never asked me what I wanted to do, he'd always say 'Hey, we should do this, it'll look great on you'. Then he'd stand around for a while looking like he was just slapping bleach on random bits of my hair but it'd end up looking amazing.
So I've just kept ignoring it, and then the other day when I tried to straighten it the ends went a bit crispy from being so dry and fluffy. Yikes.
I cut my hair really short right before I found out I was pregnant. It was an angled bob that I could barley pull back. I totally miss my long hair because it was so much easier to throw in a messy bun on top of my head when in a hurry or a quick side braid. I thought the bob would be low maintenance and trendy. It is such a pain and needs to be done every day and constantly maintained with hair cuts. I started growing it out and it is barely down to my shoulder and is in that awkward phase. My advice is unless you are committed to constant haircuts and trying to style it every day... Don't do it right now.
I am planning on getting a haircut at the end of this month.. Mostly to just clean it up and give it some shape again, but I was thinking I will go a bit shorter than normal to see how I like it, and how well I can manager.. I have naturally curly hair, and flat iron it.. so I need to be careful that whatever I do looks good curly and straight, because who will have time for a flat iron every day once baby gets here? LOL! anyway, if all goes well for the month of may, I will likely keep it at the shorter length the stylist gives me, or grow it out again..
BUT! I will keep it long enough for a ponytail for sure
I don't plan on coloring until after I give birth, so I figure any haircut will just emphasize all the grays. My hair is always in a bun/ponytail right now, so I plan to wait and do both when I feel enough like a person to leave the house.
I have had long hair for about 5 years now and wore it short for almost 10 years before that. Short it definitely not low maintenance for me. I used to have to blow dry and style every day to get my short cut to look good. With long hair, I just wash and go - no product, and only use a blow dryer like 3 times year for special occasions.
I actually like to grow it out for maternity leave and shorten it when the morning get rough when I go back to work. I like the fact of keeping it up and out of my face.
Wait until after your hair falls out before making a major change. Yep, if you don't know already, you're holding onto hair right now that you will shed in the few months after having baby. And by shed, for me, it was clumps of hair coming out in the shampooing process of the shower. Make the style decision when you have less hair and enjoy it long and lustrous for now. Plus, if you're returning back to work, it can feel good to get a refresh on your style right before returning.
It took me getting pregnant to even get long hair, I think I'll keep mine. Plus I don't do well anytime I cut my hair. I always hate it and cry about it until it feels like it has grown out some.

did your hair growth and thickness increase during pregnancy ?
