My SO and I are just starting to look at names and I was wondering if anyone would side eye a little girl with the name Sofia. I like the name and it is the spelling is the Italian version to honor my SO's Italian side of the family, but would the spelling be side eyed here in America?
I would only side eye it if you didn't have the heritage background in your family. She/you will most likely need to correct people often with the spelling but other than that I think it's fine.
As an Italian this is the spelling I prefer and would be inclined to use when hearing the name. It's a legit spelling so not side eye worthy. Since you said it honors your husbands side I am guessing you have an Italian surname? That would make the spelling make even more sense IMO
I don't have any negative reaction to Sofia. Actually there is a popular Disney kids show right now called "Sofia the First" so I don't think it would look wrong or unusual to most.
Thumbs up. If someone told me their name was Sofia and I had to write it down I would actually ask them 'with a f or ph?'. I know it's spelled either way, and I actually prefer this way better.
Re: Would you side eye this spelling?
Since it's a legit spelling, no, I would not side eye it.
