Re: Weekend Randoms 4/2-3

  • All this talk about grilled cheese lately, and I really want one now, so I had one for breakfast. Except we only had shredded cheese and no tomato soup. Looks like I am going to the store today.

  • yes this ^ I can't sleep past 8 or 8:30 either! What the heck!
  • I don't know what I'm going to wear to brunch with my friends today. It's supposed to be +20C (70F) and all of my sandals/capris/spring stuff is in our storage unit. DH is away and I tried to see if I can get to the boxes by myself, but they are on the top shelf and I'm 4'10. So I'm back to the one pair of jeans that fit and no shoes (I only have boots in my closet). Are yoga pants acceptable?
  • I'm sitting in the hospital with one of my 16 year old clients because she got a positive pregnancy test last night. We have no idea how far along she is but based on her last period she could be about 7 weeks or so. This is stressful. And the ER Doctor was just rude as fuck and I'm going to end him if he cops an unnecessary attitude again.

Oh lord. I'm really glad you're there for her right now and to advocate. Judgmental ass.

Providers who treat pregnant teens poorly get a stink eye from me. Argh. I'm glad you're there with her.

I was a teen mother, so I get it for sure. She is strongly considering abortion, as well, so I spoke to my boss about us being supportive in that case and making sure no one tries to change her mind because of their own personal views. If sh knows she isn't ready for this, then that is her choice. She already had one baby 2 years ago that she doesn't not have custody of.
  • It's past 10 in the morning,  I've been awake for hours,  and yet,  I'm in bed.  Why? Because my DH is cooking bacon in the kitchen and the smell is making me so nauseous I can barely stand.  The bedroom is literally the only place I can't smell it.

  • I had my first appointment with my MW this past week and it was lovely. I had GD last time, so we talked a lot about nutrition and it was a great, supportive, wonderful appointment.

My intake with the nurse however, was very disheartening. I am heavy. I have always been heavy. I am also constipated and my DH and I had just finished lunch, so when she took my weight (with shoes on!), the scale read very heavy.
That nurse pointed out to me that I was obese everywhere she could!! She was sure to touch it on her paper every time she saw it and told me more than once that since I've already gained 15 pounds (1. Her math is wrong, 2. I don't know how much I weighed before getting pregnant - so how does she know if I've gained anything!!) that I've already gained all the weight I should for this pregnancy. Then, she was sure to replace the standard adult BP cuff with the large adult cuff, which went down past my elbow. I am a nurse - I know how to properly size a BP cuff and that one was too big for me!!

Thankfully, I know what my body needs. And last time I had a very minor weight gain because I was very strict about my diet after my GD. I had given myself a grace period of until my first appointment to slack off diet wise because I've felt so terrible. My DH and I try to eat paleo, so we really do eat quite healthy when we are on track (we love pizza when we're not!! Ha!).

I just hate it when people - especially "professionals" are discouraging and not encouraging. I couldn't imagine hearing all the things she told me and not having the wherewithal to know the facts or the self confidence to not take her words as truth and feel doomed.

I should point out that I know weight and GD are big medical concerns - and I do not take them lightly. They are my only risk factors with this pregnancy - but I think there is a tactful and encouraging way to support women and the way this nurse chose was neither.

  • I really want this baby to be born on November 9. (Our most likely EDD range is the 6th through the 10th.) H's birthday is October 15, and mine is December 3, so November 9 would be the "average" of our two birthdays. We got married on 09.12.15, which is a Pythagorean triplet, so I think it would be fun if we could keep up the tradition of mathematically significant dates for important events!  :p

I had my first kid at 19, my second at 23, and I'll have this one at 29. Sequential prime numbers! I am so ridiculously happy about this. Glad I'm not the only math nerd...

  • @MrsBigTime I'm sorry that nurse was so shitty. I would definitely mention it to someone at the office so that someone talks to her about it. No one should have to deal with that crap, especially from a healthcare provider.

Also, I found the baby's heartbeat for a couple seconds earlier with my home Doppler! It was pretty quiet and I couldn't find it again even though I kept trying for almost a half hour afterwards but I definitely heard it!! I will happily tolerate this nausea for the rest of the day now.

  • Um, fucking plot twist. The Hcg quants results were less than 1. As in, one. As in, super not pregnant. She said she took two tests and one was positive, th staff that was on said it was, and yet she isn't. I'm so annoyed and confused.
  • Fixer Upper marathon this morning. I would kill for Joanna Gaines' hair! My babies are going to be half-Korean like her, so I can only hope they get my husband's gorgeous hair.

  • I'm going on a mini day road trip with my best friend from elementary school. We only get to see each other a few times a year. I am so so excited.
She wants to go for sushi (which I'm fine with. I know to stay away from raw because even not pregnant I get sick)
And then we are going to the beach. I'm excited for fresh air.
