Skype

Anybody else have Skype family?

Olive does. My parents, her nanny and 'papa (Short for grandpapa) are in Nova Scotia. And we are in Detroit so we skype every day.

I put Olive on her piano kick-and-play and then skype mum. Now when Olive hears the skype ring, she starts smiling. It makes me so happy. My mum is a giant nerd who sings weird songs to her constantly. If she can't think of a good one, she makes one up. My dad is also a nerd and plays the mandolin for her. And sings jingles but instead of selling cat food, he puts her name in there instead. Babies love nerds. I'm glad Olive's grandparents are nerds.

They were a huge presence in her life for 2 weeks over christmas. They came to be with us after she was born but had to go home new years eve. I was terrified she'd forget them so we started daily skypes three days after they left.

Re: Skype

  • When I was still with my ex in Virginia, we video called my parents(in Florida)all the time. We've been doing it with DD (5yo) ever since she was born. My parents felt like they didn't miss out on much because we would call all the time. And DD has an excellent relationship with them, thank God since now my dad is the father figure for her since my ex can't be bothered to call his kids.

  • Thank goodness for technology!! My parents Skype with my 2.5 yo nephew and they all love it. We haven't Skyped for my LO because we were sending pix via text and What's App and also because the early weeks are pretty quiet. Now that he's more expressive and has so much to say, I know we'll be Skyping when the 'rents return from the Philippines next month.
  • My mom lives in Seattle and I'm just north of Chicago so we Skype.  It's her first grandbaby, I was so happy she was here for the birth.  We skype 2x a week, she even watches us do bath time.  When he's sleepy she'll read him a book.  It's really special.
  • My DH's entire family lives in mexico, so we Skype with them all the time. Baby definitely lights up now that he can recognize aunts from our trip down there a few weeks ago.
  • Not skype but my sister face times DD every night to say good night. She lives 20 mins away and sees her at least once a week lol! DD loves it, she smiles as soon as she hears my sister call her name. She's like her second mom.

  • I didn't know there was another Detroiter on here! Cool!
  • I think I'll be having to skype with my XH because he's so far. I don't want her forgetting him, that would break my heart. He's visiting maybe 3 times a year but that's not enough.

I hipe he is willing to stay civil with everything.
  • We Skype and FaceTime with my family and friends in the states all the time! DD stares at the faces one the screen and she babbles at my mom  :) we send videos and pics to her and my sisters and nieces all the time with whatsapp. We have a group chat with them which makes it a lot easier. 2 weeks ago we even got MY grandma on skype! She finally figured out how to answer our video calls  :) We are so thankful for technology!!
