First Appointment Birth Center - Doppler and Heartbeat?

My prenatal care and delivery will be at a local birth center for my third child. I had my second DS there, but don't remember when I had my first appointment and if we heard the heartbeat at first appointment. Should they be able to find the heartbeat at 8 1/2 weeks with a Dopppler? I've heard that a Doppler won't pick up until about 10-12 weeks.

It's hit or miss that early. They may try to find it but they may not - since looking and not finding does nothing but freak everyone out. It's pretty consistently heard after 10-12w so they may wait till then

They tried for me at 8w4d. They said it was probably too early, so I wasn't freaking out when we didn't hear it. (My symptoms are enough to confirm for now...)

I just heard the heartbeat today (8w3d) but I have a home Doppler and it took me 45 min to find it (looking within a 2in area too, the placement has to be perfect and the perfect angle) I doubt a dr would try that long. But d/t high risk pregnancy with my first I bought one and I love that I was able to use it. Amazon and about $45 will get you your own obsession lol

ooh, expensive obsession. I wouldn't trust myself to be able to find the heartbeat correctly. I really shouldn't be too worried. It's my third and my first two pregnancies were completely fine.
