Re: Health and Fitness Check-in ~ 3/28

  • I just have the same goal this week as last week-- swimming all the week days.  Which I guess means I have to get up and head to the pool...

  • I'm supposed to meet my personal trainer this weekend to touch base. I haven't done anything that would qualify as a good workout for a while now so I'm a bit nervous how that meeting will go. Also morning sickness is kicking my butt this week so I'm just hoping to avoid loading up on too many carbs to get me through it all. I guess Id like to make it to the gym three days this week but we shall see. Not too hopeful.
  • I did a pregnancy DVD workout last night Tracy Anderson month 2.  It wasn't bad at all. I got two more DVD's coming tomorrow from Amazon hopefully they are good ones.  They were on the top list from thebump.com.
  • What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week?  Keep trying to incorporate more fruit and veggies into my daily diet.  I'm soooo not doing good in this area <sigh>

What is your Fitness Goal for the week?  Get to the gym twice this week and walk around the neighborhood 3 days this week.

Are there any challenges you're facing this week?  I'm lazy.  I hate packing a lunch and prepping meals but if I want to eat healthier and save money it's a must.

How did you do with your goals last week?  Not so great.  Started off the week well but ended up pretty bad...especially with Easter food lol

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why?  I just ordered a yoga one to do at home, I'll let everyone know how it was during the mid-week check-in.

  • What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week? Eat well (whatever I can stomach, really), maintain weight

What is your Fitness Goal for the week? 5x (run 3 / barre 2)

Are there any challenges you're facing this week? Since I hit six weeks the hormones have been rough. Morning sickness is worse, energy is low, and im all around grouchy (yes, working out helps the grouchy part, but I have to GET there first which is hard)

How did you do with your goals last week? only worked out 4x when I wanted 5. Maintained weight (watching my calorie intake-- not restricting but trying to stay under 2000 calories which is about right from what I've read)

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why? Pure Barre Prenatal (there are two different DVDs- both are great)......GREAT workout without stressing out your body too much. Plus, if you stick to it your booty will look great in no time :)
  • @ANZ116 I'm liking the sound of your DVD recommendation.  Do I need any props or just the DVD?

  • What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week? At this point I have zero appetite so whatever I can eat I do.  I haven't gained at all so that's at least something.

What is your Fitness Goal for the week? I've been good about hitting the gym 3 days a week and taking a long walk everyday but running is rough.  Almost out of the first tri and I know running will get easier.

Are there any challenges you're facing this week? Morning sickness that is really all day sickness plus the fatigue.

How did you do with your goals last week?
I did really well last week.  Only on Tuesday did I not doing anything at all.
GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why? I have a yoga dvd which was nice put pretty easy.  I used it last pregnancy and by the 3rd tri almost everything was just sit in a chair and bend a little.

Question:  Does anyone's doctor recommend for them to do kegels?  My doctor never said a word about them but I know every pregnancy app yells at you to do them.  I read an article last pregnancy that actually said squats were more effective for pelvic floor strength.  Just curious what others have heard and what you all think.

  • @EmmieAnn22 most of the OB's at my practice recommended them last time (I was seeing 7 OB's on rotation) but I'll be honest I maybe did them a total of 10 times throughout my entire pregnancy last time.  I would like to try to start doing them regularly with this pregnancy but I never remember...maybe I'll set my alarm before bed or something lol.

    Squats...hmmm I'll look into that...thanks!

  • participating for the first time *waves*

What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week?
More veggies. I bought some good salad dressing to hopefully help with that.

What is your Fitness Goal for the week?
Keep up a mix of weights, running, and yoga. Ima actually going to a yoga retreat all Saturday which is something I have never done before so I'm not really sure what to expect.

Are there any challenges you're facing this week?
    Can't think of any.

How did you do with your goals last week?
Not great but I had really bad sinus congestion and felt resting up was important to kick it.

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why?
I have a prenatal yoga dvd tha I did occasionally during my first pregnancy when regular yoga got uncomfortable. It felt too easy at first but otherwise good. I can't remember who made it.
I'm mostly a believer in continuing any exercise you were doing before getting pregnant and listening to your body to adjust as needed versus prenatal specific work outs.
  • @ANZ116  I LOVE PB workouts, they have been great. You are definitely right about the butt! @TrulyBlessed22  I have never done the DVD ones but in class you need light weight (only if you want them really) I use 2lb ones, a ball (for some of the workouts) and a tube that you just use for stretching. Your butt will look great! I highly recommend these workouts, love them!

What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week?
Eat more vegetables and fruits, really just not as many CARBS.

What is your Fitness Goal for the week? At least 4 barre classes, 2 down so far.

Are there any challenges you're facing this week?  I feel pretty awful after 3/4pm. It is nice this week because I am on spring break and am able to get a workout in, in the morning. Hoping to stick with it!

How did you do with your goals last week? Only made it to 2 barre classes. This is a new week!

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why? I have not tried any yet! Loving the suggestions though.

How did you do with your goals last week? Great with yoga, not so great with eating...

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why? I mostly do Desi Bartlett's GAIAM prenatal yoga video, and I like it a lot. I've tried 3 or 4 and it's my favorite. Lots of squats and hip openers.

  • @mrsflamingo that's the one I just got!  Yay, now I'm really excited to try it!

  • @TrulyBlessed22 you only need a chair or bartop or something for support, small handweights (you can even use soup cans as a substitute) and a ball (they are $12 on the pure barre site, or if you have kids already they probably have a ball about the size you'd want)
  • Great!  Thanks @ANZ116

  • What is your Health/Nutrition Goal for the week? Eating a more balanced diet. (more veggies)

What is your Fitness Goal for the week? Gym 3x and walking the dog

Are there any challenges you're facing this week? I am exhausted

How did you do with your goals last week? Pretty good, could do better.

GTKY:  What's your favorite Pre-natal DVD and Why? None. I am continuing my cardio kickboxing and zumba class. I don't work out at home.

@Jazz1016 a Prenatal DVD is a fitness DVD specifically filmed for pregnant woman.  Many woman opt to continue their regular workout DVDs and just alter certain moves as necessary but for woman who are new to working out or are nervous about possibly injuring themselves or the baby, due to poor form etc, then a Prental DVD is the way to go.

  • BaHahahahahaha I have managed to lay on the couch for the hour between when I get off work and need to get my daughter from day care every day this week so far. I even cancelled the volunteer time I usually do on Thursday afternoons at my daughters day care because I anticipate feeling like crap. My morning sickness is kicking my butt. No work outs for me this week. Fail.
  • I've been doing a little better with my eating but still far from where I need to be.  As far as fitness, blah!  It's been chilly out so I've been anti walking and I just can't seem to get to the gym.  Definitely going on Saturday though and will be walking around the neighborhood today since it's going to be nice and warm out.

  • I was able to make it to the gym on Tuesday and I am going today and Saturday so win for me there. I could get out on a few more walks with the dog but the weather has been crappy. As for eating, I noticed this week that I cannot eat nearly as much as before or I feel sick. So I feel sick because i'm hungry so I eat, then I eat and I feel sick because I ate too much.

  • @m6agua I am in the same exact boat in terms of eating.  It sucks!  Last time that didn't happen to me until 2nd tri and I found that eating smaller, more frequent meals helped but this time it's happening earlier and it's a stronger feeling than I recall with my 1st.

  • Weather sucks here too.  Well it sucks 70% of the time.  Yesterday was sunny and 65 and today it's 40 and rainy.  Makes getting outside and walking difficult.

Im not doing too bad this week.  Food is the hardest but mostly because I don't want to eat. I'm just past 9 weeks and haven't gained at all and with my last pregnancy I was up 10ish pounds by this point.

I managed the the gym twice this week but canceled with my trainer this morning due to a headache.  So overall I'm proud of myself.  And I think everyone should be proud even if you don't hit your goals.  Pregnancy is hard and draining at times at least we are all trying.
  • I got Mon-We'd in. Today is just not going to happen, so I'll have to go on Saturday instead and accept that substitute.

  • Have been making good food choices and getting my water in. Still no running because still having brown spotting and it's weirding me out, but did go for a walk.

  • Makes total sense. Thank you!!
  • Well...struggling a little bit here! I though spring break I would have more time but I feel like everyday I have something new scheduled. Going to try to get two more barre classes in this week on Saturday and Sunday. I have been eating more veggies and fruits though. I bought a huge thing of organic strawberries and washed and cut them up yesterday and now I can't stop eating them! I can't believe how much better they taste to me then regular ones as I normally am not super strict on buying organic.

    @anne11716
how are you liking your barre classes now that you're pregnant? I was going to barre for a few months this winter but had to stop at the beginning of February due to a wrist injury. I got the okay from both doctors to go back now, but I'm so nervous about it. Do you do anything differently? Use a ball to support your back?

  • @Katemr1146 I love them still! I don't do the lower back where I lay on my stomach (I'll just go on all 4's) and at times I use the ball to support my lower back in ab work. They give you a whole paper about modifications but most don't start until the 2nd Tri. The instructors are super helpful too! I asked my doctor about it yesterday and she said it's totally fine. She said for the small amount you are on your back I can continue to do it throughout my entire pregnancy just make sure to listen to my body if something starts to hurt. I love it!

  • Worked out every day so far this week.  I will run today (inside track to avoid cold/rainy/windy weather!) and yoga retreat tomorrow.

I might have done a bit too much yesterday lifting weights and got a little freaked out...I got unexpectedly winded and slightly dizzy. I when I slowed down/took longer breaks between sets I felt better. Definitely something to work on.

Not doing great on eating more vegetables. I'm buying groceries today and can hopefully get myself some more options.
