"Alien" moments

All day I get a kick or a jab. But it still hadn't fully hit me that she is a real person until tonight as I lay in my luke warm tub of water and I can't play candy crush because she is kicking my hands and moving them. So I stop and look down and my belly is contorting like she is trying to make her escape. It was just surreal and a complete moment out of Alien the movie but obviously nicer but entertaining and intimate.

I have these moments at night lying in bed.. My husband will poke gently and she responds by nudging the exact same spot. She full on moves my entire belly around while laying down now. So crazy. And honestly the single best part about being pregnant. This bond we get to begin with our little ones is so special. ❤️

  • I literally said out loud in the car the other day 'whoa, please don't erupt out of me like that scene in Alien'. She was seriously writhing and pushing!
  • His latest trick is to arch his back so his butt pushes up under my right boob. The whole right side of my belly is hard and contorted. Then his little feet tickle my left side. At night, when I lay on my side, I can feel his hands going up and down against my side like a wave. It's so weird but so wonderful!
  • 100%. I say 'That is not an exit' to him multiple times a day. He'll go nuts rolling around and other people can see it. Last night it looked like he was trying to pile drive through my side and my husband was like, 'what the? Is he trying to get out??' I'm like yuuuup. :) I love it. He also kicks anything that touches my tummy, the bed, the dog, my phone, my lap top. He's like 'nope, I need my space!'
  • It's so wonderful to read this thread! Got anterior placenta so I don't feel him that much but I'm living bicuriously through you ladies:) He kicks and rolls and does all kinds of things, hiccups is his latest trick, but movements are somewhat muffled. He freezes still when my husband touches my belly. He only got to feel him few times.
  • Yesterday was one of the first times I could see movement from the outside and she was partying for sure. I tried to video it but it stopped whenever I got the camera out. I texted H to let him know that our daughter's new nickname is Lanie 'Lohan', party girl extraordinaire :) I still can't distinguish between kicks or punches but I am hoping I will be able to soon.
  • So I've got a dumb question. I'll be 31 weeks on Monday and I'm honestly wondering when I'll feel any kicks above my belly button. I'll preface by saying I am 5.10' and have a long torso but so far I don't think my little girl has flipped yet. I get tons of movement, rolls, kicks/jabs down low all day and then at night in bed right below or at belly button level. Not once have I felt anything above my belly button yet and so many have said they are already crowding their lungs. I'm guessing my individual anatomy is a big factor?

I'm in a similar boat (though not as far along as you are). I've never felt him above my belly button, & I am only 5'4". I keep expecting to feel him a bit higher, but all movement occurs very low. I was planning on asking my OB about this at my next appointment just out of general curiosity.

I only recently started feeling it and it's because LO flipped over.  When they did it was like "Woah, there you are!"  I'm also 5ft 4 but I have a shorter torso so if you have a longer one it may take longer.

Yes! Anterior placenta here too and I can definitely feel movements but they are muffled. I can feel them stronger down low now but every time my husband puts his hands on my belly baby freezes. Last night I had my hand on my belly down low and I got two back to back Swift kicks that made my hand jump and husband tried and right then baby stopped. He sat there hoping for a couple of minutes but this happens so often now that he is getting discouraged. It's comical in some ways but I do love when he can feel some good kicks. I think it makes it feel more real for him too.

I'm 5'11" and 29 weeks and only rarely feel something at/above the belly button line. I asked my doc on Monday when I should start worrying about her positioning and she said 36 weeks.

  • RNMegan0711 I am 6' and verry rarely will feel movement above my belly button. My DR told me that since my torso is so long I will likely not have the lung crowding situation. There is just more room for baby to move around, and he likes to be extremely low!

Me too. He'll be having a dance party and my husband will put his hand on my stomach, and then he stops. Silly boy!

  • @RNMegan0711 do you know baby's position? My LO was head down and I was having lots of kicks up high but he flipped breech a couple weeks ago and now all movement is very low again, almost none above my belly button. So that could be a possibility also!
  • ... Is anyone else immaturely giggling at bicuriously?? Sorry @kwife15 ... Very high school of me!
Please do! I sometimes confuse words :)

I'm not sure what position she is in. We go to the perinatologist this week so maybe I can ask then.

I am 31 weeks and I'm 5'8. I have a long torso though. I started to feel his feet right below my sternum last week or maybe the end of my 29th week. When I'm sitting at work, I have to get up sometimes because he will be digging into the rib area. I know that my last ultrasound showed he was in the vertex position (head down) so it makes sense. Maybe your LO hasn't moved themselves into this position yet
  • Just yesterday I got my very first "holy crap that's a body part" movement feeling and although I've been feeling flutters and rolls and knocks for the past 12 weeks, that one floored me. And as much as I loved it, IT WAS SO FREAKIN WEIRD! Felt another one tonight where I had my hand on my stomach and felt something push against me like it was dragging against my hand. Still so weird and unreal feeling, but I also don't want it to stop.
