This is a weekly check-in for those in their 1st trimester: weeks 1 through the end of week 13. I know we've all gone through a lot to get to this point so congratulations and best of luck to all of you over the next several months!

Please post a little about yourself, your EDD (if it’s not listed below), any upcoming appointments, symptoms, etc. Feel free to also share your IF journey, I know many of us can relate.

QOTW: Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Thank you in advance to @tvh1982 who will be taking over this weekly update thread next week!

Re: *1st Tri Check-in Week of March 28th!*

  • Hi everyone!  I'm excited to finally be in week 13, the final week of the first trimester.  We had our NT ultrasound this past Friday and Mr. Bojangles is looking great, with no soft/hard markers for any issues.  I am seeing both the regular ob and the high-risk maternal-fetal specialist since I am deemed high risk.  I don't go back until week 16 for a check-up and then the anatomy scan at week 20.  Here's my latest ultrasound pictures of him at 12w5d (although he's measuring at 13w1d).  His heart rate has finally started to level out at 158 (had been 180 weeks 8-10)

I hope everyone has a great week!  I know today has been hard for me to get going. I'm feeling lots of stretching and growing down there, and much more energy, which I am loving!

QOTW: Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?  Probably my blanket on the couch.  I love a good blanket, even in the summertime.  I love feeling all snuggly and warm.  My DH bought me a beautiful purple one for my birthday that drapes around the neck, and then has "foot pouches" on either side.  He knows me too well!
  • @Piperella Mr Bojangles  is adorable! I'm so happy for you that everything looks so great! I'm also thrilled to hear that energy should return in two weeks.

This is week 11 for me. I told my dad and DH family that we are expecting. Everyone was really excited, but my SIL was ridiculous. She was crying answer screaming like a nut job. DH and I were looking at each other like, is it weird she's happier than us? I made these cookies to announce:

QOTW: I could not go a day without a comfy bed and pillow. I'm a princess about where I sleep, and even when I go camping I need an air mattress with a feather bed on it and a bunch of pillows. It drives DH nuts, he has one pillow on the bed and I have four. Plus my maternity pillow....

  • Good morning ladies! I had my 8 week check up this past Friday, but baby was measuring at 7w2d. Doc isn't concerned, so I try not to be too (doesn't always work though!). Our little squiggely wiggely had a heartbeat of 168 bpm, excellent for how far along I am.

I've been so tired and hungry these past few weeks. It seems like I can't go 2 hours without eating something, except at night when I am usually able to make it 9+ hours without anything. And I nap basically every day for 1-3 hours. I'm very very thankful that DH and I saved up so I could be at home. I couldn't imagine working at my previous job right now (actually, it involved heavy lifting so I don't think I'd be able to).

QOTW: Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without? I'd definitely have to say my kitty. She is my first baby, and she very much loves being the baby. She insists on snuggles quite often, which I usually don't mind, though sometimes I just want to sit in peace!

@Piperella Yay for nothing bad on your scan!! And your LO finally looks like a baby on the US! (mine still doesn't)

@kennelchick Cute cookies!! How funny that your SIL had that reaction. She must be super excited about becoming an aunt!

  • @kennelchick omg!  Those cookies are so cute looking!  What a great way to surprise the families!  Hopefully you will see more energy within the next few weeks.  I'm a pillow snob, too!

@AandDM2014 - So glad your latest ultrasound visit was good!  Unfortunately I'm an "every 2 hour" eater too.  My OB said that was normal as our digestive abilities slow down, so we typically eat smaller portions, but more frequently.  I totally get the kitty thing too.  Last night my cats were a bit nutty last night, and I feel like I didn't get any sleep.  Sometimes I'd like to lock them out of the room, but hearing them cry, paw at the door, or meow is too much.
  • Love the cookies @kennelchick. Very cute idea.

Oh those cats, I only have one and she's a cuddle slut, doesn't matter who she's getting it from, anyone getting close to my sofa and she is there.
She's not allowed to sleep with me anymore, way to much hair..her crying and paw at the door broke my heart, but I'm as stubborn as a 3 year old.

AFM: I'm doing ok, haven't had much energy, so having a few days off was lovely.
Eating is a chore at the moment, nothing sounds or tastes good.
My mood is all over the place, one minute I love being alone (Easter break and literally the whole town is away skiing) the other minute I hate living far away from my family.
Have to wait under week before I can see that little snowflake and really hope it's still there. Oh the worry.

QOTW: Aside from necessaties, what thing could you not go a day without:
That's a tough one, I do all three things you girls mentioned above...
If I would move today there are two things I'd take with me. My creepy doll (she has no eyelashes anymore..) and my cat. The first as I had her as long as I can remember, she's laying in a box with a stuffed animal (so she's not alone...I know...crazy lady alarm) in my closet and my cat, coz she's all fluffy and adorable.

  • @Piperella With my kitty sleeping goes like this: If I close the door while she is in the bedroom, she'll paw and cry to be let out. If I then let her out and close the door, she'll paw and cry to be let in. If I let her in and then close the door.... You can see where this is going! It is so much easier to just leave the door open. As I am the one who is most consistently in bed at night, I am the one who gets the snuggles. She has a spot at the foot of my side where you can tell she lays often as it is COVERED in cat fur. I lint roller it every now and then, but it just comes back. She also likes to sleep up by me at about chest level so it is hard for me to get out of the bed and I have to snuggle with her more. She is SUCH a baby! I'm wondering how she's going to do once human baby arrives. I really hope she'll be like the cats that get in the bouncy chairs and snuggle with their human babies.

@tvh1982 Too funny that your kitty will force snuggles on anyone! Not having energy is the worst! Especially when things like dishes and dinner need to get done. I get ya about the mood swings. I too am sometimes grateful that we live about 2 hours from our family, but other times it kinda sucks.

Ugh, today is just ugh! I went to do my exercise and I just wasn't feeling it! I usually do 40 minutes of walking on the treadmill and various inclines (up to 10%) but today I was like 20 minutes, no higher than 3%, done. My body just had no interest in working that hard. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow!

  • Id like to bitch for a moment.
This bloated belly is killing me...don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to get a proper belly, just don't want to get asked if I'm pregnant because of bloating...

  • I'm so sorry, @tvh1982!  I'd tell you it gets better, but that's only because of what I've heard as well.  I've had some bloating go away, as things have slowly been moving from blump to bump.  I'm sorry about your colleague.  I'm overweight to begin with, so I think (hoping) that people will think I'm just gaining weight in my stomach before jumping to pregnant.  Hang in there!  I'd start looking at some maternity clothing (no shame here!).  I switched to wearing dresses all the time at work because I figured it'd be easier to conceal the pregnancy a while longer.
  • I am happy to hear that everyone is doing well. @kennelchick I love the cookies and it is great that you had a party to tell your family. We live so far away from our families, we had to tell over the phone. We were too excited when we got out of our first u/s, we told our parents over the phone. I regret that decision so much now, I wish we had told them on skype so we could have seen their reactions.
I had another u/s last Friday and we were able to see the fetal pole (6w5d) and the heartbeat at 121. It eased my mind a little, feeling more excited than anxious now. Thanks god, I still do not have any symptoms except feeling tired at night. Ohh bloating , @tvh1982 ! I had that too. I seriously have a bump already and I cannot fit into my tight jeans without using a hair clip :)
QOTW: It is probably considered a necessity, but I cannot live without a hot shower. I cannot feel okay if I do not take a shower immediately after I get home from work. Even when we are camping, I cannot sleep without a shower or bath.

  • Glad to hear about the bloating @piperella and @zoefer
My best friend was shocked today as he hasn't seen me in to weeks.
I think it's from having had abs to not having abs makes people wonder.
My trousers I don't fit as I can't seem to close them.
Have one maternitytrousers (second hand one) and I loved them in the weekend, (so comfy!) but they make that belly pop even more. Ah well, I'll survive. Glad I could write it here and people understand.

  • Do you have bellabands over there?  I bought two generic ones from somewhere else, and they have helped once or twice.  Was just an idea to maybe help!  You're going to have an adorable bump in the coming weeks, tvh!
  • I didn't think of those, we must have them here. Thanx for the tip @piperella!

  • I have energy today! I haven't had energy for 7 weeks! I've spent the last two hours cleaning my severely neglected house (DH just isn't as detailed in cleaning as I am). Now there is a scary thought in the back of my mind, if I feel good, what's wrong with the baby?
  • @kennelchick oh lol, that is me anytime a symptom changes!

So I'm wondering if anyone else, maybe those further along, have experienced this: Since Tuesday I have been oh my goodness hungry. Like when I wake up, I have to start eating within 2 minutes because I feel like I'm going to faint otherwise. And I have to eat at least every 90 minutes, if not more often. I'm really hoping it is a growth spurt, and I'm going to ask my RE about it tomorrow, but I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Luckily I don't have any nausea so I'm able to eat that often, it's just getting kinda tedious as I have to pack two snacks anytime I leave the house.

  • haha, @AandDM2014!  This is me.. I can't even remember when it started.  I keep jolly ranchers at my bedside table.  I am sucking on one now as I type this to try to "hold" myself over as long as possible.  I find drinking water makes it worse, and can even upset my tummy when it feels empty.  I try to eat more often, like you said.. 90min - 2 hours tops, but smaller meals so it evens out in the end. I have little ritz mini's and animal crackers I keep at my desk, but I prefer having a jolly rancher instead of a whole package of something.  I've gotten used to it a bit and didn't even think about it as a symptom really.  Good luck finding what works for you!  You may want to try posting this question on the random thoughts thread as well so you get some ladies from other trimesters answering. :)
  • @Piperella, what do you do in the middle of the night? I haven't been eating anything, but I'm thinking I should start.

  • A few times I've gotten up and gotten a few saltines (not for nausea, but they aren't heavy sugar, etc.)  Other times I just tell Bojangles that it's not time and I need to go back to sleep.  I fight with myself from time to time. It's a silly/horrible feeling to have your stomach growl right as you get in bed.  I know logically that I have eaten, and I just have to make myself go to bed.  Sometimes I bring a cracker to bed with me.  You may want to try eating some peanuts or something that has a bit of protein before bed, too.
  • I have a baggie of wheat thins by my bed, and if I feel a little nauseous on one of my many bathroom trips I eat a couple and it seems to help. They help during the day too when the sudden omg-i-need-to-eat-right-now hits.
  • Oh how I would love to eat. I can't stomach anything at the moment, and just the thought of food makes me want to vomit.

  • @tvh1982 I had horrible nausea and vomiting and after needing iv fluids for dehydration my OB put me on diciglis. I don't know if it's available where you are, but all it is unisom and b6. It helped make me feel human again, definitely worth looking into.

    Thanx for the tip @kennelchick
I have an app. with my doctor the end of April, so will call tomorrow to see if he can squeeze me in before.
I have a history of not storeing vitamins so am worried that I don't have enough to give to my baby now that I have trouble eating. Started to freeze, (and I'm always warm) which I googled could be my low iron.

I blame @aanddm2014 and @piperella for us having trouble eating @kennelchick, as those two girls have stolen our drive for food, obviously

but now...and it breaks my heart to say it...it's all yours, I'll pass and eat my dried out cracker instead. Yummy! :disappointed:

I am so thankful that i do not have nausea because i throw up so easily. My mom never had nausea or food aversions in her pregnancies so I am hoping that i will be just like her.
I feel the need to eat a little more but i do not eat much. If i donot have snack after lunch towards dinner , i feel so weak , my hands are almost shaking. I never had insulin problems but now i freak out about pregnancy diabetes. Is this normal pregnancy hunger or diabetes could start this early in pregnancy? Do your doctors monitor blood sugar and insulin levels at this point? Edit: i forgot to mention that i am around 7weeks.
  • @tvh1982 LOL!!! That is too too funny!

So I was supposed to have a dentist appointment the week before transfer, but it got delayed twice. I went today finally for x-rays and a cleaning. They ended up doing neither! They checked my gums for pregnancy gingivitis instead, and now I need a $960 deep cleaning with numbing involved. Oh yay! I have to check with my doc to see if I need to wait until 2nd trimester to do it, or if I can do it sooner. I'm hoping sooner as I'm a bit crazy about my dental cleanings.

  • @ZoeFer - My Ob doesn't do the glucose testing until week 28.  If you're having shaking issues or just don't feel right, you may want to go to your doctor or at least call in so they can check your levels.  The issues with gestational diabetes has to do more with the placenta and the placenta not being able to filter out the additional insulin(I think that's the right word).  Being early on, I'd think it may be something that you are lacking vitamin wise.  You're lucky not to have nausea or aversions!  My baby doesn't like chocolate, but thank goodness loves cheese.
  • @ZoeFer when I went in to let my insurance know that I was pregnant, they ordered a bunch of blood tests, one of which was a glucose test. I'm sure you could ask your doctor to order one for you. Especially since you have PCOS and gestational diabetes is more common in women with PCOS. I'm going to my OB for my first appointment on Monday and one of the major questions I need answered is if he agrees that having PCOS can cause more problem for pregnant women (which it can). If he does not think that, then I'm getting a different doctor. Gestational diabetes is no joke, and is dangerous. I would suggest if you're able to eat more, you should. It may help. I know it helps me feel better when I start to feel bad.

  • Thanks for your posts @Piperella @AandDM2014 . You are right, my biggest concern is having PCOS and I am really worried about all the possible effects of PCOS on my pregnancy. I have my last appointment with RE and will move to my OB later. I will talk to RE about it.
