road trip food

So next week my parents and I will be visiting a sister with a 7 hour car ride.  My mom thinks we will stop at a rest stop for lunch so we can allow my 17 month old run around a bit.  Now what can I take to eat.  I WANT a turkey sandwich but I know I shouldn't be eating that.  So what other food can I take that isn't a salad for my lunch.

Re: road trip food

  • Why can't you make a turkey sandwich? Or why shouldn't you be eating it?

We just went on a road trip for a week and we had things for a sandwich in a cooler, almonds, apples, Kind Bars, Perfect Bars (my favorite), roasted garlic chickpeas, oranges and some celery and carrot sticks.

Cause if it was up to me i would be eating a turkey sandwich most days...thank you to the hype of listeria I do try to be good and not eat too much lunch meat while pregnant...doesn't mean i don't eat it here and there.
  • I usually pack a combination of string cheese, apples, trail mix, protein bars, beef jerky, greek yogurt, and/or crackers. Maybe a PB&J sandwich if I don't want to stop for lunch.
  • Hummus and veg, roasted veg and cheese sandwich, PB&J, homemade chicken salad wrap, or a BLT?
  • I know you were probably looking for real food but M&Ms are my must-have for any road trip.
  • I ate a turkey sandwich for lunch every single day this week.  I have no regrets.

Trail mix, cheese and crackers, PB & Nutella sandwiches, munchie mix, and corn nuts.

  • I had a heated turkey and bacon sammich yesterday. Not to alarm you, but have you seen the news with lysteria popping up in produce, bagged salad, Starbucks food? Even ice cream! I went back several months on news articles, not one mentions lunch meats. Not saying it's not possible either, though.  I don't intend to stop eating my fruits n Vegs and I promise I'm not giving up ice cream.

Eat that turkey! Heat it up!

  • Costcos fruit and nut trail mix, apples,
    oranges, grapes.

  • I agree with all of the above snack and lunch ideas.  Also, I've been making a sort of caprese sandwich lately, on a baguette with fresh mozzarella, tomato slices, and fresh basil.  Top it with a little balsamic vinaigrette or pesto.  It's delicious!  Anyone who lives near one may know I copied this from Cosi, no shame  ;)
