35 wk 5 days : Doc gave me Percocet?

So, I had a Labor and Delivery visit yesterday for major pain and turns out it's a kidney stone (lovely. Just what I want at 35 weeks pregnant). They sent me home with Percocet. Now, I know the OB wouldn't give me anything that wasn't safe (I would hope!) but does anyone have any experience with this level of pain killer in pregnancy?? I'm a little scared to take it.....

It's basically oxycodone if I remember correctly. It's not meant to take long term if you are pregnant as there's a chance baby could be born dependent.
I think it's category C but I can't look it up right now
if it was me I'd just take Tylenol if I could handle the pain

  • I also had a kidney stone this pregnancy. That was the worst pain I think I have ever felt and the nurses kept comparing it to labour (think of it like you are a little bit more prepared now for when you actually give birth! Lol). My OB gave me morphine which I really didn't want and had major guilt for taking, even though she assured me it was safe. I honestly didn't feel like it helped with the pain at all and it actually made me throw up for a good 6-8 hours. I didn't take it again after that. I put up with the pain until I passed the stone four days later. I am so sorry you are going through this at this point in your pregnancy..it really is awful! Make sure you are drinking a a ton!
  • Kidney stone pain is one of the worst pains a person can have; often comparable to labor, so I am not optimistic that Tylenol alone will take care of it... If you want to be 100% sure about the Percocet, give your regular OB a call to confirm.
  • Regular OB is the one who prescribed it.

Ok, he/she definitely knows best. Just stay within the dosing guidelines provided.
  • I took percocet in the first tri when I had migraines at the advice of my OB. I would only take half a pill at a time and tried to take a little as possible, but it didn't seem to cause any issues and was the only thing that helped with the pain.
  • I take percs everyday and have my entire pregnancy. It's totally ok to take them sparingly
