FYI - AMAZING Fetal Doppler that works and eases my worries

So I was going back and forth on whether to buy a fetal doppler. Many people say they barely work others say it might make you panic if you can't find the heartbeat. I decided to get one after reading some amazing reviews. I also went into  it thinking if I don't hear anything no big deal, but if I do it would be a GREAT experience for my husband and I.

We bought this one off of amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z52R76S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

I'm so glad I bought this one because it works so well. Here are reasons I love it:

1. The instructions explain how and where to first find your heartbeat and then to find the babies. There is a CLEAR difference in the sound of your heartbeats and it would be difficult to mistake your heartbeat for the babies if you first listen to yours. My heartbeat was a very slow calm rhythm and the babies sounded like a really quick gallop. It sounded exactly like the 8 week internal ultrasound one. I didn't try this one until 10 weeks.

2. It comes with headphones and an adapter so you and your spouse can listen to the heartbeat at the same time.

3. Its so easy to use and you don't have to buy a specific gel, we just used olive oil from the kitchen.

4. The directions and diagrams make it easy to find. Also there are so many reviews online that if you can't find it there are tips in the reviews. Mine ended up being lower closer to my vagina then where I was originally looking. I couldn't find it and then i let my husband try it and he found it instantly.

Just wanted to let you know of a great fetal doppler in case you are searching  -  I know there are SO many out there and wanted to make your search a little easier. If your not interested no worries, just keep scrolling :)

  • @PCOSbaby Its the amazon listing, I won't be paid if you order from there. If you want you can just google the product and order separately. Good question!
  • I bought this too and used it once so far, but found the heartbeat only after a few minutes.

  • I have a different one and I had such trouble with it last pregnancy and haven't been able to find the heartbeat this pregnancy... so I just bought this one per your guy's recommendation. lol... if I purchased within the next 2 minutes I'd get it tomorrow so I was on that like white on rice. Thanks!

  • I have this same model and would say it's just "ok". It's VERY difficult to find a heartbeat (13+4 weeks). Per the manual, don't try if you aren't at least 12 weeks and most users say it wasn't reliable until 14 weeks.

Just cautioning those who purchase but can't find a heartbeat. Everyone's experience is different but don't panic if you're early and not finding anything.
  • I have the Sonoline B and used it last week when I was 10+2.... I heard the baby's heartbeat and it was so nice and strong.  It took me about 5 minutes of searching.   The other night I tried it again at 10+4, and found the baby almost immediately... within 30 seconds.  But s/he swam away and I had to search for another 3 minutes before finding the baby again. <3  I think it was the best purchase ever.
  • I have the sonoline B and hubby and I just can't find it... I'm 11 weeks and we search between 5-10 minutes but can't find the horse gallops....

I am the same. We can't find ours and I'm 11 weeks. I try not to get worried like I did. It just may still be too early for us.
  • I have a Sonoline B and I used mine the day I got it (was 9+1) and it took me about 20 min but I found it. I watched a couple You Tube videos from other gals that were using the Sonoline at an early gestation. Now that I've used it about 3-4 times, I'm finding it easier to find it each time since I have an idea what the general area is. The other night it was actually strong enough to start picking up a reading of 170 bpms.  <3:)

  • Potentially stupid question - are any of the folks using the doppler and hearing the baby early plus sized? I'm heavier and carry most of my weight in my belly and I'm more concerned it will just be a waste of money to get it and try. Not sure if weight actually affects the doppler.

I am, have a sonoline B, and have had no problem finding at least a blip even starting at 10w2d.  I think it's all about how your baby chills in your body (and at this point is very low behind pelvic bone).  Some days I barely get a tiny background sound (still reassuring) even after 10 minutes, other days it takes seconds to get a nice and loud over 165 fhb.

Try doing it in the morning when there is minimal bloating...  When I do it in the afternoon, the baby's heartbeat is so faint, I have to put the doppler by my ear to really hear it... but in the mornings (when there's no bloat) it's a bit easier.

Also, I've found the baby pretty low, like right by my pubic bone, and I've had to really press down to hear the baby.  Angle the wand in every direction and listen for the galloping.  It's so strange,  even when the wand is pressed down in one area, if I tilt it another direction, the heartbeat is completely gone.  It takes a while to find it the first time... but once you do, the 2nd and 3rd time gets easier.

My friend who is a pediatrician thought I was lucky to find the baby so early, she said it takes a while to be able to hear the heartbeat.  She told me that doctors usually don't wanna try it till at least 12 weeks.

    Good luck ladies!

I am not plus size but I am only a few sizes smaller than plus size. I carry all my weight in my stomach so I think that's contributing to me not being able to find it. I was pushing pretty hard to hear things and I ended feeling very sore so I stopped.

I'm a size 14 with some extra fluff around my mid section and I was able to hear the heart beat today (10w3d) with a Sonoline B. It took me about 5 minutes, but I finally found it in the very middle with the wand pressed in quite a bit. Sweetest sound in the world!  <3

ETA: I had an empty stomach and full bladder.

I'm a size 16 (18 w/ this bloat!) and I definitely have extra pudge in the middle, but since baby is much lower, I'm still able to find the HB in the middle-ish just about the pubic bone line with minimal pressing, but not too much that it would hurt, you really don't have to push down very hard. The first time took a lot of patience, but it's definitely been getting easier to find each time. ♥

  • I've been wanting to buy one but I can't decide and I want one that works real well. This one looks fairly easy to use. At my last appt. The doctor had a hard time finding the babies heartbeat and when she did we couldn't hear it that well because mine was overlapping the babies so I'm hoping I'll be able to hear it with a fetal doppler, just want to find one that works well.
    Any suggestions?
  • get a sonoline b. we just got ours today and I heard it. I'm crazy overweight and I'll be 11w tomorrow :)
  • Yay @mrszoess! See, that money was worth it, eh?!  :)

  • @copperboom86 it was! it was also awesome seeing my husbands expression
  • I want to get one. I went to the Dr at 13 weeks and he tried for the heartbeat with the doppler and he didn't find it. I was frustrated because he tried for under a minute and told me with was too early to hear.
  • @littlewillie2016 we found it the first night and haven't since. it's hard to do.
  • We got the Wusic. Tried it yesterday and had no luck. But this afternoon we heard the heartbeat loud and clear!
