Back Pain

So, I am 20w 2d along and the back pain started yesterday afternoon out of nowhere. It has hit me like a max truck! I don't remember having anything like this with DD. It hurts so bad to move or even roll over in bed, let alone walk. I'm not sure what to do. Unless something magical happens in the next few hours, I will be calling the Dr when they open. I'm petty sure it is completely normal but I don't know how I am going to function if this continues. Anyone experience this? Any tips on how to cope?

*Edit * Of course the OB is closed today for Good Friday so I guess I will just have to deal until Monday. A physical therapist friend of mine gave me some exercises to try and they have helped a bit. Definitely took the edge off but still in quit a bit of pain. Hoping it will get me through the weekend. Re: Back Pain

  • You should find a good chiropractor. I was having back pain so bad I couldn't walk. It turned out to be my hips, but seeing a chiropractor has helped immensely.

I have thought about that. Will definitely bring that up with Ob

  • I'm having a lot of back pain as well, but I have degenerating discs in my back. I talked to my OB and she gave me a brace last appointment to wear when it's bad. It has helped a ton so far. I would definitely ask for you. My insurance thankfully covered mine.
  • Definitely call a chiro today and make an appt. I go to mine once or twice a month, but will probably go more often as I get larger and more uncomfortable! My chiro said he sees women up until the day they give birth sometimes!

I agree with PPs, a chiro can be really helpful. I also have had back pain this pregnancy and I'm starting next week at the recommendation of my OB. She just emphasized that I go to someone who regularly works with pregnant women, as it is important for them to know what they're doing.

Sorry you're in so much pain! I hope you find some relief soon!

    edited to fix grammar.

  • I have the same thing. I struggle to walk sometimes. My doc said its just where the baby is sitting. I was told to do a heating pad, try yoga or a belly band.
I didn't have this with my first either. So much more aches and pains this time around.

  • I'll echo the chiropractor, but if it weirds you out, perhaps first try a massage.  I've been using a combo of twice a month massage (massage envy) and nearly weekly chiropractor to keep back, hip, and tailbone pain reasonably under control.  I've been going since 5 weeks, when the back pain started.  I'm now at almost two weeks between chiropractor visits, so that's good progress.  And the biggest plus, apparently my insurance covers the chiropractor visits at 100%.  Score.
  • I went to the OB yesterday because the pain is still intense. Dr said " Well, you are pregnant" She did write me a prescription for a prenatal massage so I have an appt for that tomorrow. Unfortunately, our insurance pretty much sucks & won't cover any of the massage, even with the rx. Hopefully, I won't have to do it on the regular as that would get pretty expensive.

  • Prenatal yoga has made a huge difference in my lower back and hip pain.
  • Physical therapy! On top of relieving your pain,  they can help you with your changing posture and body mechanics as your weight distribution changes, and give you exercises to minimize new episodes of pain. I know you said your PT friend gave you exercises, so that's definitely a good start,  but seeing someone in person can really help put together an individualized plan
  • I've posted this before,  but it might be a good adjunct if the pain is due to the pregnancy changes.
