C-section and myomectomy moms... How are you feeling?

Hi moms! As I wrote in my introduction, I recently had a myomectomy November 2015 to have 5 fibroids removed. My dermatologist explained to me that it takes 12 months for the scar to set. I usually feel some tightness and small aches and pains. Now that I am pregnant, I am feeling other twinges, cramps, and general soreness. I really want baby to be ok. I am hoping that all this is normal, but would like to hear feedback from other moms who have had similar surgeries. How do you guys feel? Any of you been through this before or currently?

Re: C-section and myomectomy moms... How are you feeling?

  • I had a csection and haven't really noticed anything significant pains so far in this pregnancy. Sometimes if I stand up quickly (since being pregnant) I feel like a pulling sensation but not really painful.  I also had fibroids during my first pregnancy but never got them removed! I got pregnant before I had the chance. Praying they don't negatively impact this pregnancy. :-/

  • I had a c-section with my first. During my second pregnancy, which was 13.5 months later, I felt some discomfort- stretching and itching- along the scar line. Not the same surgery as a myomectomy though, and I had more time to heal than you have.

  • Thanks for the feedback! I didn't really want to have mine removed either, but because they were so low and I'm such a small build... I was having all kinds of bladder problems :-( And the doctor also said that I would have difficulty getting pregnant if I left them in. I hear most women do get fibroids at some point in their life and may never realize it. I asked about c-section recoveries because the doctor said the myomectomy was basically the same thing but with a smaller cut (mine was only 3 inches long). But when I have my c-section he will recut the same spot and widen it. Not sure why I am having this discomfort, but I am hoping for the best! Otherwise I feel great and no spotting.

I had a c-section 2.5 years ago. I haven't had any issues with the scar. But ask your doctor about putting wheat germ oil on your scar once a day for 60 days. It made a significant difference in the size of my scar and it's is known to help bring back nerve feeling and correct the imbalance! I'm not super holistic but it made a huge difference for me!
  • I had my right tube removed in August and I've been feeling a lot of twinges and pain related to that surgery. They went in through my c section incision so the thought of opening that bad boy up again kind of freaks me out, so I'm hoping for a vbac. My recovery on my tubal was worse than my c section!

  • I've felt twinges here and there, but that's pretty normal, and I had them with my second & third pregnancies too. I think if there was any real concerns, you would have been told to avoid pregnancy for awhile or in general. I went into labor with my second and don't remember feeling any incision pain, if that's helpful for those of you trying for a vbac(I ended up with a RCS, as predicted by the doctors, I had the same issues as the first.)
  • I had a c-section & I have 2 fibroids, 1 is calcified. I've been having cramps/twinges of pain where my calcified fibroid is. I hope that's all it is. I have my first ultrasound tomorrow! Also some pulling on my sides. My OBGYN said they couldn't remove my fibroids until I was done having kids? But the locations shouldn't impact pregnancy. I had at least one already when pregnant with my son.
  • My doctor just said it could make getting pregnant more difficult. Because it would be hard for the egg to implant... Not sure though because I never really tried before. I had the surgery because I had to pee all the time. I had two 3 inch fibroids, one 2 inch, and two that were about an inch. Which was so weird because I was under 100lbs and would have never guessed that I had them or that they were the cause of my bladder problems! And maybe I am just in a pro surgery state because I met with 3 doctors and they all wanted to take them out! It took a while to convince me to do it, but I felt relief almost immediately... He did say that the fibroids are just going to grow back in 3-5 years so another myomectomy or hysterectomy is in my future, which is why we wanted to start having kids so soon.

Wish I could attempt a natural birth. So far, my doctor is completely against it. He said that the risk of a ruptured uterus was too high, bit I'll ask again at my first US to see how things are going.

Thanks for the advise on the wheat germ oil! I love natural remedies! I've been using coconut oil, but I don't think it helps with nerves.
  • I had a myomectomy in June 2011 and two c-sections (Dec12 and Sep14). I've never had an issue with my scares. I tend to heal really well. My Dr actually noted that I had very little scar tissue during my c-section.

I am almost 6 weeks with my 6th pregnancy (2 losses).
My c/s's were Dec. 07, Aug. 11, and Jan, 14. Never had issues with my scars/incision site with any pregnancy.
