Organize baby's room. Help!

This may seem like a stupid post but I am racking my brain on how to organize my little ones nursery. We have a 7 drawer long dresser (top used as changing table) 3 small drawers on top with the other 4 being bigger on the bottom and a closet. (which her and SO share currently as he hangs his military uniforms in there - they don't take up TOO much room)

My question to you (especially STM's) How did you or do you plan to organize your LO's clothes, diapers, blankets, etc.? I have tons of hangers also. What makes sense to hang? what makes sense to store in the dresser? What do I do with the clothes she won't be in for several months to a year? I have all her new things mostly hanging right now with dividers by age.. but I am such an organizer it is bothering me that I can't come up with a logical system. I know I'm making myself sound crazy! I also got a ton of hand me downs from a neighbor that I washed last night and would also like to start putting away tonight after work. What worked for you? Someone help!

  • I have no dressers or closet...You are already way ahead of me :/
  • Loading the player...
  • I hang dresses/outfits and fold onesies/gowns/sleepers. Anything she wears out of the house hangs to cut down on wrinkling. I have the older clothes in a tub in the attic arranged so when she hits the next size they're all on top and I just grab and go.
This is me also. Onesies and sleepers go in drawers and the rest is hung with closet dividers so I easily see size divisions.

  • Similarly to PP, I have shirts, sweaters, nicer onesies (and would have dresses if a girl) hanging in the closet. I have pants rolled in hanging drawers in the closet along with socks, shoes, and accessories each in their own bin or drawer. Bins on the bottom of the closet and boxes on shelves in the closet have things like extra diapers, wipes, sheets, baby carriers, burp cloths, etc. The top drawer of the dresser has sleepers and around the house/backup onesies in case of blowouts. We have a hanging organizer with diapers, wipes, and toiletries like coconut oil/nose frieda/etc. next to the changing pad. These things could just as easily go in a high drawer though (we have them on the wall for childproofing). The second drawer had swaddles and blankets, and previously, the bottom drawer was empty. Now that my boys will share a room, the swaddles and such are in the bottom and each boy has a sleeper drawer above. We store excess clothes in labeled space bags in the attic.

@kp90 DD had the same dresser set up that you do. Here's what I did: in the 3 smaller top drawers I put socks and hats in one, bibs and burp clothes in another and use the third for hair accessories and other random type things.
I used a small basket that fit nicely on top of the dresser to keep diapers and wipes and butt cream in and would just refill it whenever it got low. (Still use it to this day and I'll try to attach a pic)

For the bigger drawers I sorted by onsies, pants, pjs/ sleepers, then used the last drawer for blankets and swaddlers.

Oh and the closet... I would hang up anything that is a dress or outfit and anything that is too big for baby then rotate it into the dresser when you're ready to use them.

Same concept as PP. Top drawers for socks, bibs, mittens, shoes. Hair accessories, diapers, wipes, small lotion/wash bottles. Then the swaddlers and small blankets things like that you'll want handy. & clothes wise fold up regular onsies and shorts/pants and hang dresses, nicer onesies, rompers.
  • For the bigger clothes, I store most of them in bins in our garage but will keep the next size up washed and ready to go under the crib in an under the bed container (i could get two fit under my crib). That way if the baby has a growth spurt you have clothes ready to go but they are out of the way.
  • We're planning on having most of her clothes, and socks and things like that in her dresser. We bought a bunch of these bins from the Container Store, and we'll store larger sizes in those. I imagine we'll hang up dresses and other "nice" clothes.
  • I keep the outfits I buy for her to grow into in the closet on the hangers they came on. The only other thing that gets hung up are nice dresses and such. I have a drawer for onsies and pants, socks and hats, and sleepers, and I recently split the dresser in half for LO so his side looks identical. We don't have a linen closet (which I hate) so we use a bin in the bottom of the closet for larger burp rags, sheets, and blankets.

  • We put diapers and socks in the top drawer for easy access during changes.  Our DD want very slobbery so bibs went in the kitchen along with some burp clothes.
